The drama probably has had enough with killing our hearts through those torture and pain, and here’s a good news: the healing part is here! I’m so happy that the drama doesn’t wait until the final week to offer us the closure to certain things, and it’s kinda lessen up the pain when I think of the impending goodbye. Everything has to come to an end (including the drama sobs), but for Do-hyun and Ri-jin, their journey towards healing has just started with acknowledging their past, although it wasn’t all pretty and shiny.
[Episode 18]
Ri-jin and Ri-on went back home after strolling around the park with Rina, and Ri-jin managed to persuade Ri-on into fetching the bicuits for the dog by teasing him with Yo-na’s kind of aegyo. LOL! Poor Ri-on still couldn’t get over the incident he had with Yo-na and he went inside the house. Ri-jin sent Rina to her kennel, but someone came over…and it was Se-gi. Ri-jin initially thought that he was Do-hyun, but he didn’t say anything; instead, Se-gi apologized for being late and asked her to run away with him.
Se-gi: Sorry for being late. Let’s go.
Ri-jin: Where?
Se-gi: Anywhere. Let’s run away..first, from the terrifying memories.
Ri-jin: But..I don’t have any money right now.
Se-gi: I have…Cha Do-hyun’s card.
Although he was 21 years late, Ri-jin remembered the promise they made when they were young and this time, she didn’t hesitate to take his hand. Awwwh. She sent a text to Ri-on informing him about her outing with Se-gi while assuring her brother that nothing would go wrong, because she knew Se-gi the best. Now that Ri-jin had recalled everything about her past, she realized that Se-gi was a part of Do-hyun which held the most painful memory, and she felt that the pain was left under her care. Thus, she wanted to try healing Do-hyun’s scar from now on.
Se-gi wanted to know where Ri-jin would like to go, and he declared that her words would be the law to him from that moment. Eyyy so cheesy. She was more interested to find out the reason why he pretended not to know her when he first met her. He didn’t want her to recall those ugly memories, because what’s more important to him was for her to choose him. Se-gi confirmed that his memory and Do-hyun’s had became one, and he knew that Do-hyun had found out about everything, including his real identity. That shock caused him to go into dormant state for now, and Se-gi’s flashback told us what happened after the fire.
Little Se-gi actually set the fire in front of the basement room where little Ri-jin was confined to, and the fire followed the flowing gasoline into the room. Jun-pyo managed to escape the room and saw his son standing there unfazed. Se-gi didn’t say anything when Jun-pyo asked him about the fire, but the kid soon passed out. Jun-pyo carried Do-hyun towards the entrance and the boy stirred up awake, but he didn’t remember anything about setting the fire. Do-hyun pleaded for his father to save Ri-jin and Jun-pyo handed over Do-hyun to a fireman before heading back towards the basement. Little Do-hyun was still blaming himself for everything that had happened and when the EMS staff asked him his name, he answered: Cha Do-hyun.
Jun-pyo went back to the room and the fire had almost engulfed the entire room. Little Ri-jin was sitting there hugging her teddy but by the time Jun-pyo reached the room, the girl was already gone. He saw a rope hanging from the small window, and Mama Ji was the one who saved Ri-jin before smuggling her out of the place. Grandma Seo explained in the voice over that they received a letter who introduced herself as Seo-yeon’s friend, and they were told not to search for the girl since the friend would raise the kid. One thing that was true: Jun-pyo did get hurt while trying to save ‘Do-hyun’.
Little Do-hyun recovered after the fire, but he was never the same again. When Madam Shin called him Jun-young, he completely ignored her and continued to play with the teddy which was left behind by Ri-jin. But then, his mother tried calling him Do-hyun…and he looked at her. She was taken aback, but she hugged him, assuring Jun-young that it was for better that he forget everything about the fire. She told him that he was the one and only Seungjin’s heir, Cha Do-hyun, and the boy continued to play with the teddy, hugging it tightly.
That was how the original Jun-young believed that the original Do-hyun perished in that fire, and he made another personality which resembled his dead friend out of guilt. Ri-jin learned that Nana was not a new alter recently created by Do-hyun; the girl alter was born to replace little the 7-year old Ri-jin, but the alter stayed dormant since then, until Do-hyun met Ri-jin recently. Se-gi admitted that he was the one who started the fire to save Ri-jin, although the girl could end up dead. He just smiled when he said that she’s still alive, but only he knew what his really felt after the fire. Ri-jin felt that she was the reason for Se-gi to resent Do-hyun, and she was the cause for Do-hyun to develop his DID.
Se-gi was about to argue with her when someone called Do-hyun’s phone, and Se-gi seemed to recognize Alex. That guy was Do-hyun’s best friend back during their high school days, but Se-gi’s reaction said that he had a bad history with that guy. Alex called Do-hyun because someone had been contacting him with the intention of finding out more about Do-hyun, and the oh-so-considerate friend thought that he should give Do-hyun a chance too to meet him. Se-gi agreed even after hearing that Alex was in need of money, and we heard from Ki-joon next why he was desperate. Alex had asked for USD 500K as his reward in return for sharing the valuable information about Do-hyun, and that friend was swamped with gambling debts. Ki-joon offered to wire 20% of the amount into Alex’s account and the rest would be given after Alex told him the info.
Alex was not an easy guy, because he refused to accept the offer and insisted to have it go through as what he suggested before. Se-gi went to meet Alex and explained to Ri-jin that Alex was someone who used to blackmail Jun-young when he was in high school. Se-gi’s calling Do-hyun Jun-young! Se-gi was angry just from thinking about Alex, who was like a parasite to Do-hyun. Ri-jin secretly sent a text to Secretary Ahn, because she’s a smart lady. Yeah!
Se-gi was eager to deal with Alex once they reached the place where he was going to meet him, but Ri-jin thought that she should go and meet Alex first. I know that she’s going to buy some time until Secretary Ahn went there, but that’s one dangerous move! The rules they agreed for Se-gi (No anger, no violence, and protect Do-hyun’s image) were still valid, because Ri-jin and Se-gi were not over yet. Plus…didn’t he say it earlier that Ri-jin’s words would be the law for him? Kid Se-gi could only curse through his gritted teeth as he realized that his words had come back to bite him. Hehehe! He let her go after vowing to kill Alex if he tried to hurt Ri-jin.
The genre changed straight into thriller once Ri-jin stepped into the warehouse, and Ri-jin tried to joke while calming her own nerves. Alex came out of the dark and Ri-jin introduced herself as Do-hyun’s secretary. He mentioned that Ki-joon had offered him 500K, so he would ask double of that amount from Do-hyun, so that would be a total of 1 million dollar. But then, he found a liking in Ri-jin and thought that the amount could be negotiated as long as he got her. Urgh, scary.
Se-gi was preaching the rules while cursing and Ri-jin was feeling threatened when Alex started to approach her, and she screamed, telling him not to come closer. She accidentally poked his nose until it was bleeding and he was mad. Lucky for Ri-jin, she could scream very well and Se-gi could hear her voice from outside. He ran into the warehouse and punched Alex before choking him, but Alex tried to stab him with a knife. Se-gi blocked it using his palm and he strangled Alex, fueled with intense rage. Seeing how Alex was on the verge of dying, Ri-jin screamed at Se-gi, telling him to stop before calling Do-hyun to come out. Do-hyun snapped back into his own self and realized that Ri-jin was there with him. Secretary Ahn arrived shortly afterwards, but he was a bit late to save the day this time.
Ri-jin treated Do-hyun’s palm while rambling about what happened earlier thinking that Do-hyun was just like a man possessed by a ghost and returned to his ordinary self once she called his name. Well, you’re his shrink after all, Ri-jin. Ri-jin didn’t hide the fact that she remembered the origin of the name Cha Do-hyun, and he could only apologize to her. He really liked to hear her calling his name like that.
Ri-jin: I hope that you won’t feel apologetic towards me. Although the memories I’ve recovered were not complete yet, there were good memories as well as the painful onea. Inside those good memories, there was my mother who rescued me from the fire, and there was the young Mr. Cha who visited me at 10 PM every night. To the lonely me without anyone to lean onto inside the dark, cold basement, you who risked your life to go to me every night, was my savior and my hope. That’s what made me cope with such condition back then, and because of you, I held on while waiting for you. Perhaps, the reason why my heart didn’t shatter into pieces was because of you.
Ri-jin then apologized for being the reason why Do-hyun’s heart was broken into several pieces. She knew how hard it was for him to struggle against his alters by himself, for the sake of protecting the name Cha Do-hyun.
Ri-jin: That why..I’m going to give you a present. The name Cha Do-hyun. When someone asks you “Who are you?”, I’d like it if you say “I’m Cha Do-hyun” like before. Even if I call you Ferry Park, you have to get upset and say that you’re Cha Do-hyun. And I’d like it, if the person with that face and those eyes to be Cha Do-hyun.
Do-hyun stared at her without saying anything except wiping her tears, and he sent her home. Do-hyun told her not to get sick, have nightmare, and worry about him..and Ri-jin wished the same for him before walking into the house. Do-hyun suddenly had his headache before he could get into the car..and Ferry appeared there.
He started ranting about Do-hyun getting hurt after experiencing a heartbreak but the smell of soup made his mood better. Daddy Oh saw him and Ferry was puzzled to have the man recognizing him, and Daddy Oh started smacking his head because he thought that Ferry was cute. HAHAHAHA! Poor Ferry kept switching between being amused and annoyed at Daddy Oh, while the latter was so happy to see Ferry with his drinking habit and the accent. He offered to give him some drinks and Ferry accepted it with open arms, of course! Daddy Oh told Ferry to treat him as his older brother and Ferry called him brother in Jeolla-do dialect. Ri-jin and Ri-on could only stand there horrified, seeing that Ferry was in front of them.
Daddy Oh told Ri-on to fetch his special beer and Ferry continued to feed him with flattering words, including praises for Ri-jin. Ferry mentioned how Ri-jin’s beautiful heart touched his but he managed to deflect the suspicion of Daddy Oh, who thought that he was dating Ri-jin. Heeeeee! The special beer was brought to them and Ferry was super excited to have his drink…but he experienced the telling headache before he could even get the cup to touch his lips. He tried to bring it closer but passed out before he could have the taste of the liquor. Ri-jin and Ri-on seized the chance to carry the unconscious body of Do-hyun away and sent him to Ri-on’s bedroom. They left him there but he opened his eyes right after they left the room.
Ri-jin found it strange that the alters suddenly came out one after another and Ri-on was a bit worried about it, but Ri-jin thought that it must had been difficult for Do-hyun for him to lose control over his consciousness. Ri-on then went back to his room but found it empty while Ri-jin retreated to her room to find someone reading a book. It’s Yo-sub! He was wearing Ri-on’s glasses and sweater, and greeted Ri-jin with a smile. He thought that Ri-on’s novel was sloppily written, to the point of hurting his soul. Yo-sub suddenly expressed his wish to write beautiful poems if he was given more time, but time was not on his side. Ri-jin asked him a question: why his name was Yo-sub?
Do-hyun was in high school when Yo-sub first attempted suicide and the fact that a top student tried to kill himself sent the whole school into frenzy. It was his Christian name (Yo-sub from Joseph?), and his twin sister Yo-na (Jonah) was the complete opposite of him: she wanted to live. Yo-sub assured Ri-jin that Do-hyun had no intention of killing anymore, so he might disappear one day. Since he was afraid he won’t have the chance for a farewell, he wanted to say goodbye in advance..and kissed Ri-jin’s cheek. AWWWW this kid! Did he hold a crush towards Ri-jin all this while?
Ri-on interrupted them and Yo-sub was flustered there, before Ri-on threw him on the floor thinking that he was Ferry. Ri-jin told him that it was Yo-sub, but the one who stood in front of them was no longer Yo-sub. Yo-na’s here, guys! She was so elated to see her Ri-on oppa (but not so much for Ri-jin) and launched herself onto Ri-on, hunting for his lips while Ri-jin was laughing at them. No wonder Ri-on was so traumatized! Kekekeke.
A new problem occured with Yo-na’s appearance: where would she sleep for the night? Ri-jin couldn’t possibly sleep with her (because that’s Do-hyun’s body) and Ri-on refused to let her enter his room (since she’s Yo-na), and Yo-na cursed when she was frustrated at the two of them. Pwahahaha! Ri-on wanted to leave her in the living room but it was a no-no, because Ri-jin knew that she would wake up the entire house instead of sleeping. Ri-on made the decision to use a decisive method: rock, paper, scissors! Yo-na witnessed the ‘duel’ expectantly and Ri-jin lost. Yo-na warned Ri-on after seeing how excited he was to win and Ri-on stopped celebrating his victory.
Yo-na ended up sharing a room with Ri-jin and despite their constant name-calling, she helped Ri-jin to put on a hair serum before they went to bed. Although she tried to escape and go to Ri-on’s room, Ri-jin managed to stop her and they settled down with this arrangement: Ri-jin on the bed and Yo-na on the floor. Ri-jin decided to tie Yo-na’s hand to her own with a rope so that she won’t be able to go out of the room and they fell asleep.
They were still fast asleep but Yo-na got excited to dream about Ri-on and accidentally pulled the rope, sending Ri-jin to tumble down from her bed. She didn’t even stir, not even a bit, and the dream might be the reason why she was sleeping peacefully: it was a dream of Do-hyun and her when they were young, playing together before lying on the grass, just like how they were at that moment. Yo-na smiled in her sleep, but Do-hyun was here to take back his body.
He was initially surprised to find Ri-jin in front of his eyes, and he was tied to her while wearing a bunny pajamas. He decided to continue staring at the sleeping Ri-jin before she stirred awake, and Ri-jin was aware that he had returned.
Do-hyun: When I think about it, the phrase I always use and hear in my life is the name Cha Do-hyun. Although we were apart after those days, it felt that as if our fate didn’t end back then, and we stayed connected through the name Cha Do-hyun. I thought that it would be painful to keep you by my side and it would be a torture for you to watch me, so I had to send you away. Even without you by my side, it was still painful. So…don’t go away. Stay with me.
The two of them were just getting into their emotions when the light was turned on by Ri-on, and Do-hyun scrambled to hide his face. Ri-on was getting suspicious of them and Do-hyun tried to distract Ri-on by calling him oppa like Yo-na did, except that his voice came out a little too hoarse. Muahahaha! Ri-jin stared at him alarmed, while Ri-on found it even more suspicious. Do-hyun decided that it’s best for him to leave but still keeping his (terrible) Yo-na act. He excused himself with the bunny pajamas on, and Ri-on knew that it wasn’t Yo-na. Ri-jin teased her brother, wondering if he was upset to see Yo-na gone for the time being.
Do-hyun found it funny that he had to put such an act and laughed at himself, while Ri-jin replayed what Do-hyun said to her earlier. So..it’s official that they’re back together, right? RIGHT?!
It seemed to be a regular day for everyone but the shareholders of Seungjin had a surprise in store: Do-hyun made his comeback to the office not as a regular staff, but as the person responsible to preside the shareholders meeting. That didn’t bode well for Ki-joon, but Alex sent something that made his mood better: a key to a public (sauna) storage. Do-hyun went to meet Chairman Seo and he’s determined to use his own ways to go all the way to the top of Seungjin. Although it was a warning for her Chairman Seo seemed to be happy to see Do-hyun like that.
Young-pyo had decided to tell Ki-joon about the truth behind Do-hyun’s name: there was another child who disappeared from Seungjin mansion after the fire, and the present Do-hyun lived using the missing child’s identity as a fake Do-hyun. It was possible for Seungjin to be able to do so, because they had all the power. Ki-joon also learned that Ri-jin was the original Cha Do-hyun.
Do-hyun didn’t expect to have a guest in the form of Ri-jin in his office, but she was not there as a mere visitor: Ri-jin introduced herself as his new secretary and personal doctor, and Secretary Ahn had already processed her employment. Yeay for a shipper secretary like Cupid Ahn! Do-hyun thought that he didn’t need a personal doctor, plus they ended up breaking the first clause in their previous contract, which was not to fall in love with each other. Ahhh Do-hyun, playing hard to get, huh? Ri-jin suggested that they draw a new clause together: no matter what happens in the future, both parties have to stay with each other. Sounds good! It’s time for them to reset everything and start anew!
Do-hyun expected Ri-jin to run into his arms but Ri-jin was the one playing hard to get now, so Do-hyun grabbed her hand and pulled her into his arms. They looked like the happiest couple, laughing and looking only at each other.
[END of Episode 18]
Yessssssssss~! Yeay for that ending, and yeay for everything in this episode! The fun is back and I’m not complaining at all! I think I’ve had enough of the angst and the (needed) separation of our OTP, and they’re back together! Woohoo!
Although Se-gi’s appearance might feel repetitive to some viewers, I think it’s a wise move to bring him back into the story-telling session, which won’t be complete without the main actor during the fire, Se-gi. We got the confirmation that he was the one who started the fire, and Chairman Seo didn’t imagine it. One can ask why she didn’t try to stop the boy from burning down the house, but she seemed transfixed and too astonished to do anything before the fire broke out and went to the main house. Se-gi’s choice wasn’t the best either; just like Ri-jin said in the episode, she could end up dying because of the fire, although he meant to save her. But then, what could an angry 7-year old child thought of, especially under such desperation experienced by Se-gi? Definitely not the most rational decision in his life.
We also got to see how Jun-pyo got hurt in the fire, and it showed that he still had a small amount of humanity and sympathy for little Ri-jin. That didn’t mean that what he did towards the girl earlier was justifiable, but at that moment, he proved that deep down in his heart, he was still a human being. It was probably karma for him to be hurt while trying to save the child he hated the most in the world, but I think he realized how much Ri-jin meant to his son, for Do-hyun to burn down the house for the sake of saving Ri-jin. Perhaps, Do-hyun’s earnest plea was the thing that made him went back to the room, but he was a step too late.
Ri-jin has given the greatest gift to Do-hyun (after her love, of course) by giving him the consent to use her original name, Cha Do-hyun. It’s probably hard for her to imagine herself using the name of her man, and she has come to associate the name with the one and only Do-hyun in her life. Thus, declaration was bittersweet, in the sense that she’s letting go of her past and at the same time, relieving Do-hyun from the guilt he carried in his heart all this while. Just like how Do-hyun blamed himself for causing Ri-jin to be abused, Ri-jin started to blame herself for Do-hyun’s illness. Luckily, Do-hyun didn’t wait for too long to see that Ri-jin didn’t hold him accountable for what happened in the past, as much as he thought that Ri-jin wasn’t responsible to cause his DID.
One of the drama’s messages is to show how important family is to us as human beings. Ri-jin received so much love and support for her to be able to overcome her past, while Do-hyun had to deal with it by himself. Knowing that Nana was there all along was another reminder that the burden was too much for the small kid to handle, and had to live his life being cautious while chugging any painful memories into another him, that is his alter. Although Se-gi said that Nana had stayed dormant since Do-hyun was 7, I am curious about something: at what point did Do-hyun snap out of being Nana? Perhaps, losing his memory reset everything he has known in his life, and he just believed that he was Do-hyun. Poor boy. At least he already know the truth!
Ri-on is no doubt the most loyal supporter of Ri-jin, and I am so happy that he’s not the typical second lead in this drama. It’s true that he showed signs of crushing on Ri-jin, but he probably made his decision to stay as her brother forever. I think he couldn’t imagine his life without Ri-jin as his little sister, and she already has someone in her heart since 21 years ago. Just like the supportive brother he is in the beginning, he continues to be the dream brother (most of the time) and even extend his compassion to Do-hyun. I can’t wait for them to actually become family, because Ri-on will surely use his power as the older brother-in-law. Hehehe!
The alters’ appearance was one of the best moments in this episode, because they have the power to bring in the laughter with their antics. Oh, how I miss Se-gi’s childish tantrums, Ferry’s short appearance, Yo-sub’s presence, and Yo-na’s squeal! I pity Ferry the most this time, because he spent too much time ranting and then getting smacked by Daddy Oh, causing him to miss the chance to have a good drink. That thirst for alcohol was real and Do-hyun should start drinking a bit to help satiate Ferry’s drinking capacity (or something like that).
Yo-sub’s words about farewell and saying goodbye made me sad for the alters, because they might have realized that they would be gone soon. At least my sweetheart Yo-sub looked so calm, and it was so sweet when he kissed Ri-jin with his teary eyes. Awwwwwh my heart! I bet he had a crush on her ever since she stopped his suicide attempt, and he’s really warming up to Ri-jin. Even Yo-na didn’t seem to be as wild as she usually do (except in front of Ri-on, of course) and she treated Ri-jin like her own older sister. Ahhh saying goodbye to the alters will be difficult for me to do…
8Still, Do-hyun cosplaying as Yo-na got to be the funniest thing he have ever done, and he himself felt so silly after acting all cheeky and cute in front of Ri-on. Why didn’t he come clean to Ri-on about his return? LOL!
Do-hyun wearing Yo-na’s bunny pajamas and driving Se-gi’s car, trying to act cute but ended up looking more like Ferry. Hahaha!
Seungjin’s power struggle will likely take place in episode 19, seeing how Ki-joon is getting nearer towards finding out Do-hyun’s secret. I doubt he will learn about Do-hyun’s DID from Alex, because Do-hyun’s side might have finished their negotiation with Alex. I hope that whatever Ki-joon’s going to find through the key, it was just a trick by Do-hyun and Co. If not, that Alex guy deserves to have his nose poked for a few times more.
Yeah, let’s just leave our Beauty and her Prince without disturbing them forever, okay? And Ki-joon..you can go back and try to woo Chae-yeon again if you like, instead of spending your precious time digging other people’s secrets. If not, I’ll pray for Yo-na to hunt you in your dreams, forever.
*twirls around*
Aww, I enjoy their teasing so much.
Rijin: Didn’t you say we should stay together?
Dohyun: I meant just stay together, I didn’t say I need a secret psychologist. Our contract has already ended.
Rijin: We can always make a new one.
Dohyun: First clause of the contract, do not fall in love with me or any of the other alters.
Rijin: Are you asking me to keep that?
Dohyun: I had to spent a fortune, for not being able to keep that clause.
Rijin: Well, I’ll return you the money, since it’s a breach of contract by both parties.
Dohyun: But I’m not sure I can keep that clause in the future.
Rijin: Hmm, that’d make things complicated. How about, for the first clause, we change to a new one?
Dohyun: How?
Rijin: Hmm, like whatever happens in the future, we face it together.
Dohyun: (stares at Rijin for a short moment and smile) Sounds good. So let’s turn back everything and start over. Reset. Start! (opening his arms for Rijin)
Rijin: Are you asking me…to run into that?
Dohyun: (nods) Eung.
Rijin: (Dohyunnie’s) So disgustingly hard to get. There’s no one who’d say no to me
Dohyun: (twirls Rijin into his arms).
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Woooooooooooooooooo! Ah ha~
Note: please take my translation with a grain of salt, I only understand like 50% of the conversation.
Reset start! I remember Se Gi saying that in the first episodes.
Hmm…I don’t remember this.
I think Se-gi said it in episode 4 when he went to meet Ri-jin 🙂
Yeah, you’re right. I went back to check it. He said to Rijin he had some things to confirm, probably to see if she remembered him from the past, and when she didn’t show any recognition, he said “reset, start”, as in he wanted a new start with Rijin without the painful memories, as he said in the car when Rijin asked why he didn’t acknowledge her from the beginning. Am I the only one finding Dohyun’s Engrish super cringy?
haha I remembered it from one of the beginning episodes because of his English! I admit I try repeat the English I hear from the show out loud like Stop Brother! Why Sister? 🙂
@Mrs Denny Lee
Rion & Rijin’s English was done to be funny so I can excuse them, in fact I like it when they call each other brother and sister (who does that in English?) but Dohyun’s English is pure torture, especially when Alex called him and he was like “Ah-lex?” as opposed to “A-lex”. >_< I’d noticed he spoke less in ep 1 because everyone was speaking in English, but then he tried to speak a full sentence after beating the abused girl’s father and I cringed at the whole scene.
That first episode in America was kinda dodgy and I hope that didn’t put people off where they didn’t continue to watch! Almost all of the English speakers did not have American accents and Ji Sung’s English is faulty where he didn’t pronounce pronouns that were needed and had a grammatically awkward sentence when he beats up Jennifer’s dad. But I wasn’t committed to this drama yet haha and when he played the other parts even though my Korean would be atrocious I was so entertained because I could hear the difference in Perry Park’s accent and he played Se Gi just how Ri Jin later described him that he seems scary but is really sweet. So I ended up thinking his English was his best he could do. I grew up hearing English as a second language so that could be why its not as cringy to me but I totally get what you are saying because you explained it so well that I remembered that I gave a side eye to hearing him pronounce Alex.
Ri On and Ri Jin’s English was really cute. I liked when Ri Jin recorded her video for CDH concerning his medicine. She said “Are our ready? I’m ready!” I really liked her character and I wasn’t bothered by her screaming because I think that was the right personality for CDH and the perfect personality pairing for all his personalities ha!. My last bit about the English was I thought it was cute when the wrong person would say “Nice Catch”. Ri On should of said it to Ri Jin and Ri Jin should of said it to CDH haha
Sorry so long winded. I love watching kdramas and I do not consider myself an expert (there are shows that everyone loves and I am like meh) and I am sure this drama has flaws but I am thankful I could share these thoughts here because I thought this drama was special.
There are many moments where I enjoyed Rion and Rijin’s English, because they were so comical and their synergy was fun to watch, I can totally get by their lack of enunciation.
Of course a lot of dramas aren’t without faults, especially not this one. But I think we’d all agree this one is a keeper because it makes us feel so much on so many levels. And I think it helps to have leads with such great chemistry on screen and great friendship off screen. I really really love the pairing of Jisung and Hwang Jungeum, I hope I can see them in another drama soon.
This episode is like healing to me too, after experience an overwrought emotion and twist
there’s so much moment that i love. Start from
1. Ri Jin teased her brother with Yo Na aegyo
2. Se Gi’s grumble about the three rule and also when he hear Ri Jin scream.
3. Yo Sub shy confession kiss
4. Oh sibling bickering where Yo Na should sleep
5. Yo Na and Ri Jin pajamas party
6. Do Hyun impersonate Yo Na
7. Do Hyun confidently walk to the meeting room (I prepare another comment section just for this!)
The moment when Do Hyun/Ferry Park said “Eummi” I couldn’t stop laughing because the timing is like he come out of nowhere. His comment about melodrama thing was spot on for me. It felt like the writer’s way to say “I’m done writing the melodrama phase!! Now let’s move on to another!!”
I’m not say that I hate the last 4 episode, the separation is needed, the angst is appropriate given the circumstance they had experienced. I like what @muchadoboutlove said that their promise to overcome together in the earlier episode was a bit naive, because we (as the viewer) has seen how terrifying the memory is.
Back to the Ferry Park…. What makes this moment is gold when dearest Papa Oh come out and they fooling around just like an old friend. Poor Ferry even when the beer right in front of his nose he still couldn’t drink it, again Ha!
Ferry never get the chance to do what he want.
1. In the first appearance he want to go sailing but interrupted by Ri Jin kidnapper.
2. In Ep 5 he want to drink in Ssang Ri but failed because Do Hyun regained conciussness
3. Ep 9 he want to making bomb but Ri Jin stop him (not that I pity that)
It’s ironic considering the Man that inspire this alter is in the state couldn’t get anything. Joon Pyo didn’t get the boat and the free life that he want, he saved Joon Young but his son is broken by the memory. Maybe this is something that the writer intended to give about the fate of Ferry and Joon Pyo…
Perry Park is the one to always change the mood. Too bad he never got a beer! What does “Eummi” mean? Oh one more thing, when Perry Park said that Ri Jin couldn’t dance cracked me up because i remember her in that silly dress trying her hardest to keep him occupied so he wouldn’t make bombs ha! She loved CDH then.
I think it’s a dialect equivalent to ‘omona’.
For some reason I really love the small insignificant moments like:
When Yosub got caught kissing Rijin and he froze.
When Yona came on, she said “it hurts” in a girlish voice, and Rion’s first response is “oh”, I find that so cute. And he shuddered when she called him oppa. Haha.
When Segi said “I have…Dohyun’s black card”.
When Rijin poked Alex’s nose til it bled.
When Dohyun gently pat Rijin’s hand during the sleepover.
When Yona parted Rijin’s hair and took a good look at her face, I think she, like Yosub wanted to properly say goodbye to Rijin but she was awkward about it.
When Segi recited Rijin’s law outside the place (storage place?)
And my most fav of all is probably the ending scene where Rijin and Dohyun were teasing each other, hugging and laughing together.
I totally forgot all about the part where Yona kept calling Rion to look at her and she made the hand gesture ‘going to him’.
That was one of my favorites.
I also liked how Yosub didn’t like Omega’s book
I think all the guys who crush on Rijin don’t like Rion much, Segi, Dohyun and even Yosub. Poor Dohyun had to take a quick leave when Rion barged into the room. I was like “nooooo”
Yeah,i agree with you @mary..the moment rijin poked alex nose is really funny..her finger just fit in his nose..hahaha..really love this episode because sooo many scene that made my heart happy..hope next episode will also bring us happiness till the end.. 🙂
Sorry for anyone that irritated with my long comment 🙂
When the promotional poster and trailer that show Do Hyun alters was out, I was mesmerized by Mr.X. Because I got Han Ji Hoon (Royal Family) vibe from him, that was the same reason why I was interested watching Secret Love even though Jo Min Hyuk character is more cruel and colder than Ji Hoon.
But in this episode i get a glimpse of Ji Hoon in Do Hyun when he walks confidently to the meeting room. He also show a defiance and calculating look when talking with Grandmother Seo, which is remind me in every scene where Ji Hoon confront President Gong. And when he talk with Ri Jin in the office, he show the playful and warm side of him, which is also remind me of Ji Hoon every time he talk with Kim Insook. This is the thing I didn’t get in Min Hyuk, but it doesn’t lessened any love that I have for Secret Love.
The child actor is amazing, especially Lee Do Hyun potrayal of little Joon Young is tugged my heart. How helpless he is everytime he made mistake or got caught by his father, how he was so devastated to the point he split himself for the first time. His “Se Gi” look and Nana childlike behaviour (when he play with the bear doll) made me cry and in the happy memory he looked so bright. I can’t wait this actor project in the future…
second that…child actor was really good in this drama
One part of ep 18 that I loved, was when Perry was complaining about all the melodrama. Your so right Perry. The show never lost itself. It remained true to form, being all conscious of itself.
ahahaha that was great. The little things that make this drama special
Now that we’ve seen so much of this amazing story, I can’t help but wonder why they had such problems securing a cast. I mean it looked as if the drama had a gigantic hole of a problem seeing as everyone was dropping out.
I am thankful that everyone did drop it so we can get Ji Sung and Hwang Jung Eum being amazing together. No one could have done a better job than JS with the character. I’m still in awe of his acting on this.
I think the leading man with 7 personalities was the reason people were so skeptical about this drama. There are not many actors who would have the confidence to pull off such character, thus the casting problem in the beginning. We have to be grateful that Ji Sung accepted the role followed by Hwang Jung Eum, and we got our addictive drama! 😉
I too am curious about the actors decisions to turn down this drama. I always thought it was interesting how Jang Keun Suk turned down the role of Gu Jun Pyo in Boys over Flowers because he didn’t like the character. I am intrigued because that was LMH’s break out role and he ended up playing that unlikable character really well.
Im super thankful to Ji Sung and Hwang Jung Eum for believing in the script and taking their roles in this drama. I also loved watching the BTS and seeing how dedicated they were to bring the best to each scene.
Made me wonder what strings were pulled to get them into the drama so late into the game. I saw some of Jisung’s past drama, he isn’t bad, but he doesn’t stand out either, the only one I loved was his potrayal of Minhyuk in ‘Secret’, ‘Kill Me Heal Me’ change my perception of him, he’s literally the epitome of great actor. Being married and about to be a baby’s daddy must be great, Jisung looks absolutely glowing these days too.
I hope Lee Bo young gives birth soon, and Jisung gets to be on ‘The Return of Superman’, I’d love to watch that.
Ji sung and bo young really match made from heaven..really love this couple and sometimes i do think what should i do to get a husband like that..silly me..kekeke..hope they both become great parent and i believe they will ❤
Yup, they look good for each other. And Jisung loves to brag about his wife. I’d actually love him with Hwang Jungeum too, too bad both are taken. Can’t wait to see Jisung & Lee Boyoung’s child.
I don’t think any strings were pulled to get him in.
In fact, the drama producers were probably weeping with joy when he accepted, what with so many failed castings. And I don’t think they were ever asked but I wonder if JS and HJE accepted this together, or if one accepted before the other, or if we’d have one without the other. Cause it seems like too much of a coincidence for them to just be paired up again.
@moonsorin
Reason why I think that because it was on such late notice, and I’d think Jisung at least needed time to consider, what with 7 personalities in the mix. Or maybe he was interested in the script? I think he talked about it with Hwang Jungeum because in the interview they mentioned they’ve talked about working in rom-com together after finishing ‘Secret’.
@maryxiah
Lol, sorry. I completely misunderstand your comment. ^_^
But yeah, I really want to think that they talk to each other and were all like ‘Should we do it? Should we do it?’ Haha.
I agree with muchaboutlove. The problem wasn’t the script, its challenging. Its a risk and could break your career if not done properly. I am kind of glad. This role was meant for Ji Sung and nobody else. And I am also loving that this is a show that is so self-aware. The line about melodrama from Perry, I was laughing so much. I like the way the script always addresses itself and takes all the criticism with a pinch of salt and throws it back at us.
for some reason more than the evil grandma and CDH mom i hate ki joon and the fox lady. i cant stand them.
For Evil Grandma, sometimes i understand her feel, She lost her husband and her daughter in law in the same time, and after that her only son come into Coma, and her grandson in the one who start the fire, and she must face all of that tragedy in the shortime
So happy to have the cute back. I think all those sadness were pretty necessary to the whole plot but yeah, who wants a 3-episode heartbreak in a drama that we know of as rom-com? lol.
Show has so much heart. That’s how I’ll describe it. So so cruel and somehow realistic with all those family and emotional things but it also has so much heart. And it knows when to poke fun at itself. The writer knows he/she is writing something so hard to take but goes on with it but after all those he/she mentions about the cliche he/she wrote. It’s better to do that yourself so everyone can join in the fun lol.
I’m having withdrawals already goodness. KMHM isn’t perfect but it’s a gem of a drama. For something everyone thought of as a train-wreck even before it aired, it did very very great. Congrats to the whole team, they did a great job! Thanks so much mimi for the recaps 🙂
Only 2 more eps and still no news from Mr. X…
