Kill Me, Heal Me – Episode 14

What is the exact price one has to pay to find out about a piece of truth? His whole fortune, his soul, or his sense of comfort? Truth is often disturbing and uncomfortable, thus driving most people to hide it, instead of tarnishing their images with the ugly thing that is the truth. Do-hyun is not really thinking of the price right now, but most importantly, the way he has to go through the entangled web of lies concocted by his spider-like family members. However, will he be able to bring the truth to light in the end and face his inner pain, or will he get stuck in the sticky web forever, unable to escape his fears?

Ri-on was looking for Do-hyun when he went out and overheard Do-hyun’s confession, thus he also heard Do-hyun’s discovery of his legal mother’s photo and admitted that the photo belonged to him. Meanwhile, Madam Shin’s people were getting nearer to finding out about the child’s location, as they were in the middle of tracking down the person who brought the child out of the house on the day of the fire. As expected, Do-hyun’s intention of finding out the truth didn’t sit well with Chairman Seo, and Madam Shin didn’t make her feel any better by insisting that she called Do-hyun back, before things got any worse; for him and for them.

Do-hyun demanded to know how the photo was in Ri-on’s possession in the first place (look at the fire in his eyes!), and Ri-on admitted into digging out Seungjin family’s history for his mystery novel. That wasn’t enough of an explanation for Do-hyun and they had a private talk inside Ri-on’s car, with Ri-jin snooping around trying to eavesdrop on their conversation. Ri-on only spoke half of the truth he knew, saying that he had gave up on the subject and wished for Do-hyun to treat the issue like it never happened. Do-hyun was not done talking, but a third party arrived to break up their conversation.

It’s Daddy Oh, pulling the boys’ ears while chiding them for playing among themselves instead of helping the family to prepare for the New Year’s dinner, and Do-hyun should lend a hand too, since he’s there as a family, not as a guest on that night! Off the two reluctant boys – Ri-on and Do-hyun – went to peel some onions (with Do-hyun’s doing a terrible job at that, shaking off the skin from his hand like an amateur) and Do-hyun continued to ask Ri-on about the relationship between the novel The Basement Child and Seungjin, because he was also terrified of the basement. They stared into each other’s eyes…before their foreman of the day came to check on their work. Heeee!

Auntie Ferry Cha and Uncle Omega continued to do their labour, the next one being transporting the chicken to the kitchen, with curious Do-hyun wondering if the basement story was based on Ri-jin and Ri-on’s experience. They got into the serious mode again…before Foreman Oh appeared like a ghost, asking whether they’re shooting some kind of melodrama there instead of doing their work. Ngeeee you don’t know anything, Daddy Oh! Wood chopping session followed afterwards with Do-hyun inquiring about Ri-on’s real feelings towards Ri-jin since they weren’t real siblings..and Daddy Oh interrupted them again, smashing their heads against each other while criticizing their work.

Kill.Me.Heal.Me.E14.150219.HDTV.H264.450p-LIMO.avi_000573576

I’m not even sorry for these two.

Ri-on also had enough of those pestering question and thought that he’s being persistence, just like Yo-na. Did Do-hyun really like him?

Ssangri’s closed for business and the whole family, including Do-hyun, gathered around the dining table to wish the viewers a happy and prosperous year. I’m not joking, because they really did it! So cute~ Daddy Oh praised Do-hyun (he’s still calling him Ferry) for his good work and thought that he should replace Ri-on as the family’s son. HA! Daddy Oh then brought out his wallet and gave some money to Do-hyun. Do-hyun said that the work was nothing, but Daddy Oh insisted that he accept it, since it was from daddy. The look in Do-hyun’s eyes was enough to explain how touched he was at the thought! They wanted to take some pictures and argued about the selfie stick (according to Ri-on, it was a fishing rod. Pffft!), but Ri-jin suggested that they use her phone and borrowed Do-hyun’s line:

“Remember! 19 January 2015, the moment we were happy together.”

Kill.Me.Heal.Me.E14.150219.HDTV.H264.450p-LIMO.avi_000763070

Said Rina.

It was late into the night and the family was slowly getting drunk after emptying their glasses of beer, except for Do-hyun. Mama Ji and Ri-on tried to make Do-hyun drink some, since Daddy Oh was getting upset (although Do-hyun insisted that he got bad drinking habits), but suddenly, drunk Ri-jin stood up..and told them to quit pestering her man. Pwahahahahaha! Is that a ‘coming out’ from her? Everyone was surprised except for Do-hyun (he’s amused. VERY), and Ri-jin gulped down the glass of beer in front of her man. The leading lady passed out after showcasing a blockbuster scene in front of her family..

Kill.Me.Heal.Me.E14.150219.HDTV.H264.450p-LIMO.avi_000859684

..followed by a melodrama of the boys trying to tear her into pieces trying to show who’s more qualified to carry Ri-jin to her room. Of course Do-hyun lost to Ri-on (because he’s not yet a boyfriend of Ri-jin), but he managed to tuck Ri-jin in bed, while Ri-on was sending daggers through his eyes at him.

HAHAHAHAHA! Someone please make a melo edit out of these two’s scenes!

The two guys went to Ri-on’s room since Do-hyun’s sleeping over for the night, and Ri-on didn’t really want to talk when Do-hyun called him.

Do-hyun: Thank you. Because of you, Oh Ri-on, I got to meet nice people, a good friend, and a good person.

Ri-on: If the person you’re referring to as a good friend is me, then your judgement is wrong. Because I’m not a good friend to you. If a bad friend is okay for you, then I will do it, the friend thing.

Awwwww yeah, the bromance lives on! I hope Yo-na won’t appear in the middle of the night and jumped on Ri-on’s bed!

Ri-jin woke up later and she could recall all the things she said in front of her family, and more importantly, Do-hyun was there too! Huuuu~ She went for a rambling session with Rina and the dog could only whine in respond when she was being hugged by Ri-jin. Ri-on knew that she would be there and off thy went for a midnight sweet potatoes treat. Do-hyun stirred up awake to find Ri-on gone and he went out to find the siblings talking about Ri-jin’s nightmare. Ri-on interpreted it as the two of them: him being the blurry boy and the shadow she was afraid of being a tube man, because she used to be afraid of that thing.

Someone approached Do-hyun from the back and it was Mama Ji, who called him to the kitchen. She served him some noodles (anchovy soup noodle?) and Do-hyun dug in, after telling her to talk to him comfortably. Mama Ji asked about Do-hyun’s job and he explained that he was fired from his workplace because he made his superior mad. She also wondered what he thought about Ri-jin and of course, Do-hyun said that Ri-jin was cute. Hehehehe! He also expressed how envious he was at the twins because he grew up without any siblings, and Mama Ji offered to show him her kids’ childhood photos.

Kill.Me.Heal.Me.E14.150219.HDTV.H264.450p-LIMO.avi_001357691 Kill.Me.Heal.Me.E14.150219.HDTV.H264.450p-LIMO.avi_001383983

Ri-jin wondered why she couldn’t seem to recall most of the memories from her childhood although she was of the same age as Ri-on, and Ri-on said that she got hurt from the fire that broke out in their house years ago. She thought that it was probably why she could understand Do-hyun’s feelings, but she was lucky that her family was there to help her, unlike Do-hyun’s family, who hid everything from him. Ri-on seemed uncomfortable at the mention of the matter, and Ri-jin mentioned that the wound won’t simply go away just because they hid the past. However, she didn’t forget everything, because she remembered on day: the day she became Ri-on’s twin.

Little Ri-on pushed little Ri-jin when they first met not because he hated her, but he wanted to tell that he would only accept her as his sister if she became a strong girl. Ri-on realized that Ri-jin knew it all, that they were in act not related at all, but Ri-jin avoid answering the question and went to the kitchen to see whether their mother had prepared some noodles to cure their hangover.

Do-hyun and Mama Ji went through the photos of young Ri-on and Ri-jin, but Ri-jin’s photo stirred a memory inside Do-hyun’s mind, where he could heard a child’s voice asking his name. The headache was only there for a split second, and the twins entered the kitchen, lured by the smell of the noodles. Ri-jin hid behind Ri-on upon realizing that Do-hyun was also there, and Do-hyun’s reaction was GOLD.

HE KNEW YOUR SECRET, RI-JIN!

The twins acted cute around Mama Ji, asking for their share of noodles and she went to make some for them. Ri-jin hesitated to leave and only looked at Do-hyun before walking away (she’s still embarrassed!), while Do-hyun held the photo of little Ri-jin taken on the day she became a part of Oh Family…before sneaking the photo into his pocket. Eyyyyy you naughty boy, Do-hyun!

He went outside and called Secretary Ahn, wishing his loyal man a happy new year. Secretary Ahn was actually at Do-hyun’s house since he was worried that Do-hyun couldn’t be reached earlier, and he grew even more worried that Do-hyun ended up at Ri-jin’s house because of Yo-na. Do-hyun assured him that he didn’t have to come over or worry about him, because he’s very comfortable and warm at the moment. AWWWW. He also shared how happy he was to receive his first ever pocket money in his entire life. Argh please let him live like this forever! He was also informed that there was a witness from the fire incident, because there was a garden party on that day to celebrate his father’s inauguration as Seungjin’s Chairman and the witness was among the workers who went there as assistants for the party.

Do-hyun ended the call and heard something behind him before calling out, “Oh Ri-jin, what are you doing there?” Oops, someone’s caught red-handed trying to snoop around! He managed to catch her, deciding that it’s the day for them to make up, and Ri-jin wondered cautiously if he didn’t really mean ‘making out’. Do-hyun was totally pulling a Se-gi’s act there, borrowing the line “If you’re curious, why don’t you follow me?” and dangling the keys to the basement in front of Ri-jin.

They went to the basement and this time, Do-hyun was the one who put the stopper to prevent them from being locked inside just like before. She hesitated at first, but decided to face him and admitted to her mistakes before apologizing.

Do-hyun: Each time you’re feeling troubled or curious, the person you want to talk with, the person you wish to be able to hear you..can’t I be that person? When you’re afraid of the basement but you have to go there, the person you want to go there with, when there’s such thing you want to avoid, can’t I do it together with you? Me too, just like you, have two bad memories of the basement: one was the memory from my childhood I am searching for right now, and the other one..(implying the failed kiss attempt they had there) […] No matter what it takes, I want to face everything together with you. The bad memories I have, too..I want to get rid of them by making good memories with you, Oh Ri-jin.

THAT WAS A DIRECT CONFESSION, RIGHT?! Ri-jin smiled at him, and she expressed her agreement to do so, together with him. AWWWW YESSSS! He moved closer towards her and leaned in, this time without any hesitation..and they sealed their confession with a kiss.

The basement dream appeared again and this time, Do-hyun noticed that the roles were reversed: little Do-hyun was the one leaving when the clock struck 12, and the child was the one holding onto him, pleading for him not to go and play with her. He also realized that the child was a girl, who showed little Do-hyun something after he agreed to stay a little longer. It was the photo of Min Seo-yeon and the girl introduced Seo-yeon as her mother, who promised to bring her out if she held on for three months there. Little Do-hyun remarked that the mother won’t be able to come and the girl insisted that her mother would come, but little Do-hyun told her that the mother was dead.

Do-hyun woke up from the dream and he was in the wine cellar at Seungjin mansion, hugging the teddy bear from before. A little girl picked up the bear he threw on the floor and Do-hyun asked her who she was. She introduced the name as Nana, but that was her teddy’s name. The girl also showed her drawing of Nana and she was about to tell Do-hyun her name, when the dream scene changed into the dark basement once again.

Someone opened the door to the basement and little Do-hyun started to beg for mercy at his father, Jun-pyo. He promised not to come to the basement again, but Jun-pyo wasn’t going to hit him. Little Do-hyun pleaded for his father to stop hitting the girl and he was willing to get hit in the girl’s stead. The girl started to apologize too, and little Do-hyun hugged the girl to protect her from his own father. The grown-up Do-hyun could only cry at the sight of those pitiful kids in his dream.

Ri-jin went to Ri-on’s room to wake the guys up for breakfast, but she found out from Ri-on (who’s sleeping like a cranky frog) that Do-hyun had left without saying goodbye. Dr. Seok joined them for breakfast (he was invited because he lived alone; his family lived overseas while he stayed behind to earn money for them) and he was curious about who Ferry was when Mama Ji thought that the guy must had been upset that the twins ate sweet potatoes without him.

Chairman Seo was having her breakfast by herself, looking lonelier than ever, when Madam Shin joined her at the dining table. She wasn’t going to become her company but she continued to persuade the chairman into reinstating Do-hyun. Young-pyo’s family came for a visit together with Chae-yeon, and Madam Shin remarked that the fiancee didn’t look too happy. She headed towards the wine cellar, but not before reminding Madam Yoon not to make herself throw a glass of wine at her, because she’s going to bring out the most expensive wine for their precious guests. Heh, her snide remarks are always fun..and Chairman Seo seemed to enjoy it a little too!

Madam Shim was suprised to find Do-hyun sitting there in the cellar…oh wait, was that him, really? He was indeed Do-hyun, but the memories he discovered made him confront his mother about the child. She tried to feign ignorance but Do-hyun, with tears in his eyes, listed everything he knew: the one abused by his father was not him but the child, and his mother just stood there as a witness to everything without doing anything to help the pitiful child, plus making him into a helpless witness. He demanded to know why his mother lied and vowed to find the child so that he could atone for his sins, and he’s willing to sell the whole Seungjin if that would be enough to compensate for the scar she had because of them. He won’t believe his mother anymore, as he was more confident with the memories he would eventually recover.

Young-pyo inquired about Do-hyun’s status for now since he heard about Do-hyun staying in the country, but Chairman Seo had decided to send Do-hyun back to the US since she deemed him unfit to be a part of the company for the time being. Do-hyun barged into the room, asking his grandma directly about what happened in their family 21 years ago. He ignored her order to go out and vowed to find out about everything that had happened, including Chairman Seo’s role in the whole secret. Young-pyo himself wasn’t really sure about what happened back then, but he’s truly enjoying the show that was about to unravel in front of them.

Madam Shin was still in the basement but she’s not letting Do-hyun to act carelessly this time, especially after what she had endured and sacrificed to make him the true owner of Seungjin. She called the person she hired to find the child and received the good news (for her): they had managed to track down the child and sent her photo to Madam Shin. She was shocked to see that the child was no other than Ri-jin, whom she recognized as the new secretary working with Do-hyun. Thinking that Ri-jin approached Do-hyun with ulterior motive, she ordered for Ri-jin to be caught and brought to her, using any necessary method including knocking her into unconsciousness.

Ri-jin talked about what she experienced when she went to Seungjin mansion with Dr. Seok, and she thought that the memory could be Do-hyun’s memory she mistook as her own. Although she would feel the fear when she entered any basement other than the one at her house, what she felt there was different and she was confused. Ri-jin mused that she didn’t really have any difficult or uncomfortable memories from her childhood, but she couldn’t help but to wonder about the memory she had from that particular basement. Dr. Seok noted that humans could always block any unhappy memories to lead a happy life, but the bad memories could come back when the wound from the past made a comeback.

He told Ri-jin to bring Do-hyun along with him to somewhere so that they could determine whether Do-hyun and Ri-jin did share the same memories. Dr. Seok took his leave (driving his cute car!) and Ri-jin was just about to walk inside when a car reached the compound and a few men appeared. She tried to escape when the man didn’t tell her who wished to see her, but she ended up being dragged into the car. Ri-on saw what happened and drove his car to chase after those men but he lost them.

Do-hyun was in front of his confrontation mirror in the bathroom when he received a call from Ri-on, asking whether he was involved in kidnapping Ri-jin. That was a news for Do-hyun but Ri-on gave him a warning: he won’t let him off if what happened to Ri-jin was because of Do-hyun. Do-hyun still had the tracking device in Ri-jin’s phone planted when she was his personal doctor and the device brought him to a villa. Ri-jin was unconscious and held captive inside a room, and Do-hyun fought against the men. The kicks and punches he received triggered his own defense mechanism, and Se-gi was trying to go out since Do-hyun won’t be able to handle the situation. Although Do-hyun wanted to hold to his consciousness and manage the matter on his own, Se-gi offered to take care of it, so he didn’t have to suffer. Do-hyun was barely holding on to himself when one of the thugs hit his head.

The memories started to flood into his mind, and Do-hyun could see clearly the face of the girl who was there with him in the basement. It was little Ri-jin. The clock struck eleven and little Do-hyun realized that it was time for him to go out of the basement. Little Ri-jin pleaded for him not to leave and stay a little longer to play with her, echoing the lines said when Ri-jin had the nightmare. The girl also said that she felt safe when little Do-hyun was there, and the moment resembled a chunk of Do-hyun’s dream before. Little Do-hyun was cautious since she could get into trouble if his father found out about their meeting, and he promised to come again tomorrow.

The door to the basement opened and Jun-pyo appeared in front of the terrified kids, with little Ri-jin pleading for her to be forgiven and saved, just like how she pleaded when she was kidnapped. Little Do-hyun tried to use his own body to shield Ri-jin but his father grabbed his collar, tearing the boy apart from the girl.

Se-gi’s memories slowly seeped through Do-hyun’s mind, including his warnings and offers to bear the pain for Do-hyun. His eyes were full of sorrow, and Ri-jin’s plead for Do-hyun not to leave her by herself echoed in his head..

[END of Episode 14]

Just like how Ri-on’s soul left his body after Yo-na’s kiss attack, I felt empty after writing the recap. I couldn’t bring myself to write down any of my thoughts, because I couldn’t think of anything at that moment. The first half of the episode was so sweet and happy it almost felt like a dream for the characters, and the second half is the epitome of pain and heartache. All the warm and shining smiles were replaced with rain, thunderstorms, and typhoons of tears and bated breath…especially for the big boy Do-hyun. Oh, Do-hyun…oh, Do-hyun! What do I do with you, you pitiful man? You sweet but wounded man!

Kill.Me.Heal.Me.E14.150219.HDTV.H264.450p-LIMO.avi_002471556

Is it too early for Do-hyun to find out about Ri-jin being the mysterious child he has been searching for all this while? Not really, because to me, if we’re to look at the big picture, the secret is not only about Ri-jin and her mother, Seo-yeon, but it also involves the other family members of Seungjin. We still have so many questions, especially about the people who have passed away and those who are still alive but refuse to open their mouths. It’s probably going to be one hell of a journey for Do-hyun, not only to bring together his shattered self, but also to solve the big puzzle about the secret of his family.

The scene in which Se-gi tried to jump out left me wondering: was he trying to defeat Do-hyun by torturing him with the painful memories, or was he finally giving up the memories to be shared with Do-hyun, after realizing that Do-hyun will be able to handle the truth? I really, really hope that it’s the latter, because to see Se-gi respecting Do-hyun’s decision to face the issue himself will help immensely with the integration of Se-gi into Do-hyun. Do-hyun’s already channeling Se-gi in various aspects, especially in his way of pursuing the secret and also expressing his emotions, but still controlling his mental state during those moments. My biggest wish is to witness Se-gi to become Do-hyun, and Do-hyun living his life to the fullest in his alters’ stead.

But then, another question appears: how will Do-hyun cope with the newly found piece of information in his lost memories? Do-hyun’s eyes were full of sorrow but void of his soul after he realized that Ri-jin was the abused girl, the daughter of his legal mother. If he was so enraged after finding out that the child was the one being abused instead of him, then he would be full of wrath to know that the child was, after all, Ri-jin; the person he cherishes the most at the moment, and the person he wants to protect the most from any harm. He can go to crazy length to avenge her if he wants to, and that makes me curious about his defense mechanism this time. Will he create another alter, who is a mix of him and Se-gi, but with the sole purpose of destroying his own family and finding out the truth for him? Will it be Mr. X? Mr. X, where are you??!

Nana finally made her appearance, and her existence is mind-boggling. She doesn’t seem to have the need to use Do-hyun’s body but she tends to take over him when his mind is at its weakest state, that is after dreaming about his past with little Ri-jin. Is the alter Do-hyun’s manifestation of Ri-jin’s image in his head? I can’t e sure of anything yet, but one thing I know: Nana is the teddy, not the alter.

I think I’ll have to go and talk to the swans again, just to organize my thoughts. Yeah, I just realized that I can talk to swans, and I am a swan whisperer.

(God this drama is slowly turning me into an unstable, impatient, bipolar, insomniac messy girl)

Thanks for the comments! ❤

  1. Thank you for fast recap!! You’re like the only site with coherent story of each episode.
I hope next weet all the secrets are out, especially who is Ri Jin’s father…

  2. Thank you for yet another recap!

    This episode was so many things. 🙂 T^T X( 😀 😦 😡 -_-)

I hope Do-hyun succeeds in saving Ri-jin without losing consciousness despite his bleeding wound to the head. I’m surprised they hit him like that. Did they not know who he is?

I really hope that this kidnapping doesn’t cause a unforgiving wedge to be driven between Ri-on’s budding friendship with Do-hyun.
And on another note, I thought that Ri-on was quite brave to sleep in the same room as Do-hyun after being traumatized by Yo-na. Did Ri-jin not warn him that Do-hyun’s alters sometimes wake up while Do-hyun is asleep?

I wonder… was it that Do-hyun had that dream about waking in the wine cellar, being introduced to the bear Nana and remembering that the little girl had been abused while he was sleeping at the Oh’s house and once he woke up he went to the Seungjin mansion and sat in the cellar in thought. Or, was it that Do-hyun’s alters moved him to the wine cellar while he was asleep and then he had the dream there and after waking up had stayed there lost in thought until his mother found him.
Maybe it was Mr. X then, who so neatly changed clothes, folded his bedding, and drove to the mansion, and afterwards Nana was playing with the bear, and then Do-hyun’s dream started…?

    1. The thugs(?) were probably unaware of Do-hyun’s identity as Madam Shin’s son. I don’t think they would hurt him if they know, since Madam Shin won’t let her son get hurt.

We have to give credit to Ri-on, who is really stronger than what we thought! Haaa I bet Ri-jin haven’t told him about the details regarding Do-hyun’s alters, like when they can come out. I want them to become good buddies, and I hope Ri-jin will be saved by Do-hyun this time! Ahhh I want to see Ri-on and Do-hyun’s collaboration to dig all the secrets of Seungjin! Ri-on is as good as a real detective, so he will be of a good help for Do-hyun~

Oh my, it’s a possibility too for Mr X to have appeared since the first time Do-hyun gets hold of his lost memory, even without Do-hyun realizing the existence of his new alter! Gaaah this mysterious man better make his appearance properly ASAP! I’m dying of curiosity and being tortured by the endless speculations over here!

      1. Mr. X is a riddle, indeed.

I’ve been wondering for awhile now how Nana bought/found that white bear and got to the Seungjin wine cellar basement the first time she made herself known, because at seven years old she shouldn’t be able to drive.

The first time in episode 4, I figured it was just something we the viewers should role with; that his other alters had been at play and Nana had come out last, or that that bear had already been in the mansion and when Cha Do-hyun arrived at the mansion himself Nana came out found the bear and went down to the cellar.

However, since Do-hyun’s mom was wondering why the bear was “in a house without children” I believe that the bear must have been bought by one of his alters and then that alter went to the Seungjin mansion and then Nana came out.

However, by the second occurrence in episode 14 I’m wondering which alter would do so? -Assuming of course that it was an alter that brought him to the cellar.-

Given what was going on in episode 14:

        -7 year-old Nana can’t drive.
-17 year-old Ahn Yo-sub and Ahn Yo-na, could possibly know how to drive, given that Do-hyun was in the USA at 15 and they were probably born when he discovered his DID at 17 -In many states you are allowed to have a license by then.- However, they both seem very like Korean students not American ones, so I bet they don’t know how to drive.
-Ferry Park… can kind of drive, but I don’t think he would have woken up quietly and left Ssang Li in episode 14. He would have been happy to see Ri-on again and might have raided the Oh family’s liquor storage and taken apart Mama Ji’s rice cooker -…actually I would have loved to see the Oh parents’ reactions to the real Ferry Park, come to think of it. 😀 -. Also, whether it’s episode 4 or episode 14’s appearance of Nana in the cellar I don’t know of any reason why Ferry would want to go to the Seungjin mansion. It doesn’t seem like Ferry has been there drinking in the cellar before Nana woke up.
-And, I doubt that Shin Se-gi would have so neatly folded the bedding and quietly left so that Ri-on thought that it was Do-hyun leaving. And, both in episode 4 and 14, he knows that Ri-jin survived, so I don’t think that he would want to go to the Seungjin basement to grieve.

On the other hand Mr. X seems to be an adult so he can probably drive. From the intro there are a few curious things to note about him.

        1. He’s probably quiet, thus the mask. -I don’t think half-asleep Ri-on would have noticed anything strange about him if it was Mr. X who woke up and left the room.-
        2. He dresses neatly and holds himself with good posture. -So I quite imagine him leaving the clothes and bedding neatly like they were.-
        3. He seems to be very smart given the mathematical equations on the right side of the white board near him.
        4. He seems to like fine things given the flowers and wine. -By the way, take a good look at what is on the plates. I think some of the other alters were eating or what sort of personality could Mr. X have to leave a curry/barbecue sauce/ketchup bottle lying on the plate across from him…? Maybe it was Nana who did that? There are two wine glasses one is Mr. X’s the other could be Se-gi’s or Ferry’s -though maybe Ferry would just drink straight from the bottle?- and five different dishes of food. Mr. X doesn’t have one in front of him, so assuming he doesn’t eat, the dishes probably belong to the other five alters, I guess. Okay, enough table-analyzing I think this drama is turning me crazily obsessed too. 😉 –

Anyway, earlier that day Do-hyun had been shaken up by his mother when he tried to find out more about the other child and he had just been with Ri-jin in a basement before he went to sleep, so I can imagine that the alters connected to his past were stimulated. If it was an alter that moved him to the basement -and not that he went there after he woke up from his dreams-, at the moment I can only imagine that it might be the mysterious, elusive Mr. X.

Though it would be interesting if Do-hyun makes Mr. X only now that he’s remembered things to help him deal with it all, because then we would get to witness the creation of an alter, I think that it might fit Mr. X more to be an alter who is a long standing unknown rather than one we get to witness the creation of.

        1. Wow, that’s pretty extensive analysis just for Nana driving and the existence of Mr. X. This drama tend to set small details that audience wouldn’t otherwise know unless it’s made obvious. I read somewhere about the pastry Dohyun and Rijin bought before they started their first counselling session, called Madeleine, which in literary reference means ‘Rememberance of Things Past’, which connets to the drama’s theme as Dohyun struggles with himself to search for the lost times.

I’d assume though the alters act their respective ages, they don’t loose Dohyun’s motor skills, which might have explained Nana’s transportation from Rijin’s house to Seungjin mansion. Though, it is also a possiblity that Mr. X has been a dormant alter that never made himself known, like the others. The table analysis was a bit funny, I never paid much attention to that, but I’ll be sure to check everything out when I watch the next episodes.

      2. Spell mistake: “viewers should roll with”

Oh, and I forgot, he had also just seen the picture of little Ri-jin, so that especially could have stimulated the alters that are connected to his past.

    2. @maryxiah
I don’t think all of Do Hyun’s alter also has his driving skill. In episode 5 or 6 Ferry Park had trouble to drove Do Hyun’s car because the car is imported one.
And during Yo Seob first appearance, rather went to the parking lot he choose to walk through the main entrance door.
      i hope it’s help…:)

      1. Yeah, that makes sense. Either he switched to another alter in between, or it’s simply the drama’s loophole. It’s great that this drama tend to be thought-provoking, because here we are analyzing at the smallest details and it’s fun to be discussing details like this.

      2. @maryxiah Thanks for sharing about the Madeleines!

While I think it could have been possible to set the story up as the alternate personalities don’t lose Do-hyun’s skills, I agree with hpfansgirl’s examples as proof of the reasoning that the alters don’t share all the same basic skills. To give another somewhat similar example, Do-hyun knows how to tie a necktie but Se-gi struggles with it.

So, who knows it might be a “loophole” that we are just supposed to roll with, or it might be a clue. 🙂 Either way, it was fun thinking about the possibilities of Mr. X and being so nutty waiting for the next episode as to take the time to analyze the table. 😉

-I wonder why my small correction comment that was posted at 8:05am on the 22nd is showing up below maryxiah’s that was posted later that day at 1:13pm…? Does WordPress start displaying comments in reverse order, newest to oldest, after a certain amount of posts…?-

      3. @zk

I cannot find a reply button after your latest comment, so had to borrow hpfangirl’s reply button. I think this post went nuts because of the overwhelming responds, haha.

  3. Happy lunar year yorobun!!!(^_^)v ..thanks for the fast recap!!!but can rijin being together wih dohyun if she is a daughter of dohyun’s register mother?their past memory is very painful for kids like them to bear T.T and can tomorrow be wednesday again? :p

    1. I think that Ri-jin might never have been registered as Min Seo Yeon’s daughter or at least the record of her might have been deleted somehow. Otherwise, that info would surely have come up when Ki-joon’s father started looking for the child. So, I don’t think that will become an issue; especially if Do-hyun chooses to expose to the world what happened 21 years ago in the Seungjin Group -while keeping Ri-jin’s name secret, of course- then he might get his own family records corrected to list his real mother instead of Min Seo Yeon.

    2. I agree with zk. Ri-jin is legally a part of Oh Family and I don’t think there will be any problem for them to be together since they don’t share even a drop of blood.

To zk: will Do-hyun ever do that after finding the whole truth? It seems that Madam Shin plays a big role in the whole conspiracy and he might resent her after this…

      1. Hm, that’s a good point. I think there will be a rift formed between Do-hyun and his mother. I don’t think, though, that Ri-jin would want Do-hyun to leave it as a gaping wound for him, so at her urging Do-hyun and his mother might end estranged but with some sort of peaceful closure to their relationship.

The thing is, while I don’t think Do-hyun would let Ri-jin’s identity be known to the mass media, he might try to restore her adoption record and correct his birth registry if he wanted to let her be listed as Min Seo Yeon’s heir. On the other hand, I kind of imagine Ri-jin saying she doesn’t want any of that, so they might leave their birth registers as is.

  4. OOHHH, the cat is out of the bag, at last we have the entire picture, and poor Do Hyun was shatter by his father abuse and his guilt. I suppose is survivor guilt isn´t it?. (sigh) We have to wait until next week to see what happen. But I love this episode, it was cuteness galore, and the confession at the basement was romantic, the kiss left me with starry eyes, heh! I need moreeee!!! :D. Thank you again for your recap, it came at the nick of time, but today I follow your advice and introduce this drama and your blog to be precise to my boss, lol. At first he was a little reluctant, but after reading the last ep he was hook, hahaha. So now I have to share my reading of your blog with him. I hope he relax a little bit reading you.
    Thank you again.
Read you in a few days, take care and rest.

  5. I forgot to wish you a very Happy Lunar New Year 2015 to you and everybody that read you blog. Wish you a very prosperous year with many blessing to you and your love ones. Happy Year of the Sheep.

  6. Seeing as you haven’t put up your comment/insights after the recap, I’m sure you’re taking the time to collect your thoughts and organize them into coherent lines, because who’d still be level-headed after the ending scene? I too, had to take a moment to compose myself and think how I wanted to express myself after reading your recap (speaking so seriously of a drama, heh. I take my drama watching seriously too.) That was really one hell of an ending, and I found myself extremely impressed by the emotionally packed scene. We knew it’d come to this sooner or later, but part of me wished the Pandora box be kept shut and tucked away forever. I understand Dohyun needed to go through this in order to become the complete man that he’s meant to be, but why does it have to be at the expense of everyone’s grief? The moment was short, but the emotions that were bursting out make it impossible for everyone not to connect to the source of pain. My heart goes out to both children that had to experience horrifying moments in the basement, especially after one being cruelly orphaned and left to die in the fire, while the other abandoned after the fire and had to deal with the guilt of surviving and witnessing the appalling truth all by himself.

The ending scene is one roller coaster ride for Dohyun (us, as well) as he is confronted by the truth from the past, and the torment of guilt he desperately tried to seal with the creation of his stronger self, Segi. It’s not an exaggeration to say Segi has been so noble and self-sacrificing by taking in the anguish and sorrow in Dohyun’s stead, it’s understandable why Segi is so volatile on the exterior but vulnerable on the interior, because essentially he became the person Dohyun would have become had he been the one who grow up with the pain. We know that each part of his personalities correspond to his torturous past in different ways, but we never fully comprehend the extent of sacrifices each has to make to keep Dohyun sane. Yoosub deals with the guilt through his suicidal tendency, Perry with his carefree attitude, Yoona defuses excruciating pain for Dohyun, but Segi has been the one to contain all woes and heartaches. That’s why Segi has always been the strongest one of all personalities, because he’s been the one who fiercely protect Rijin as she’s the root of his and Dohyun’s affliction, and he’s the one who bravely confront it.

I really want to applaud the writer for creating two opposite situations of how both kids dealt and grew up with the sickening experience. Rijin, thankfully grew up under the loving care of the Oh family, her admission to remembering being adopted meant she must have took quite some time to deal with the pain herself, and was able to block out the bad memories by making new good memories with her new family. Dohyun on the other hand, had to suffer on his own because none of his family extended a hand to him, all care for their own survival and pain, whilst Dohyun was left to nurse his own wound after the fire. As his defense mechanism kick in to protect him, Dohyun had to create so much personalities just to keep his sanity intact. We know Dohyun has been getting stronger, but is he really strong enough to come out of this unscathed?

I know I’ve been praying hard for a kiss scene, but I never expected the blissful ignorance comes at the price of untangling knots from the past. I wish they had more time to be happy together before thrown into the whirling storm! I know I’ve said that this drama excel in being quirky with a dose of pain, but I hope they won’t resolve this intensifying event with comedic relief because I believe everyone is very much invested in being wring dry of tears. And I hope they lay out the family connection soon because I’d hate watching my favorite couple separate on account of misunderstanding and noble idiocy.

I know today’s episode ended in heartbreaking note, but I want to dwell only in the happy moments of our OTP. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! They confessed to each other and kissed twice! (albeit no tongue action, sorry for my dirty mind guys.) I appreciate they kept the kiss cute and light because the confession itself was sweet and delightful. I find myself melting everytime puppy Dohyun smile bashfully in front of Rijin, can he be any cuter (when will I get my own Dohyun?)? And Rijin claimed Dohyun as her man! Her man! You hear that Chaeyeon? And Dohyun’s sweet smile to Rijin is the proof that they’ll withstand anything that comes their way. I can’t stop singing praises for this drama and its OTP, I think this will top my ‘have to watch’ drama list.

    1. I wish there’s an edit button for the comment, because I keep forgetting things, me and my memories.

For the first time in the whole drama, Dohyun looks genuinely frightening with his vacant eyes in the end, his pain was unmistakable, and his seemingly merge with Segi produce an added tension as to how the end product of both will turn out.

I keep watching the kiss scene on youtube, and I appreciate that after Dohyun went for the first kiss, Rijin initiated the second kiss. It just goes to show their feelings and the undeniable pull toward one another. And I can’t recall any drama that has the OTP kiss or attempt kissing as much as this drama.

    2. Ahhhhhh dear ㅠㅠ Sometimes I do wish that the secret can be buried forever because of the potential pain and torture that will come out with its revelation…but then, we won’t have this drama! The kids had suffered and someone has to take the initiative to bring the injustice to light. Do-hyun is indeed brave to confront his problems and find the lost memories, even with the potential of having a breakdown when the truth is exposed.

it’s understandable why Segi is so volatile on the exterior but vulnerable on the interior, because essentially he became the person Dohyun would have become had he been the one who grow up with the pain
Se-gi will never look the same again after this episode. My heart breaks each time I see his pictures. /sobs/

  7. I can’t process what happened. I mean, I get and I understand it, and all the pieces were laid out in front of us, but when the drama put it all together it was so overwhelming. I’m just dead! Dead!

Bravo drama. I mean, from the very beginning everything was set up to lead to this, from the moment Se Gi said “Remember.” He wasn’t just talking about the time or the memories, but he talking about their promise to always meet at 10 o’clock!! I’m crying again!!! The execution was done just flawlessly.

I am also thinking that we can now assume that Do Hyun and Se Gi have merged as one since Do Hyun got Se Gi’s memories (and possibly his feelings).

This drama is emotionally draining me (in a good way though!).

  8. I loled forever and ever when Rijin, who came up to the boys’ room in the morning to call them to breakfast, spoke in the aegyoest of aegyo tones: “Offa, Cha Dohyun ssi..” can’t remember how many times i repeated that.

Also.. That was one heck of an episode!

    1. Actually she did it before in the earlier episodes, by aegyo-calling Dohyun when Dohyun run after Rijin’s superior to apologize for grabing his neck the night before (it was actually Segi’s doing). It can be cute and lovable for some, but overbearing to people who couldn’t withstand aegyo in general, I’m the former!

      1. I noticed that too! High five, shishter!

As for aegyos in general, for me it depends on the person doing it. I don’t know, but HJE, here in the drama at least, is one of those that amuse me. I’m never even bothered by her screaming even from day one.

        1. High five! Maybe because I love her already so most of the things she does barely (yes barely) bother me. I’m slightly bothered by the shrieking but she made it so cute, I couldn’t hate her for it.

  9. I guess angst will officially start from next week. I also really really hate cliffhangers, I have to say it again, I hate cliffhangers and will never again watch a show that is currently running. Having said that, the writers need to solve the biological mystery as soon as possible. Its about time for some answers. We know already that the whole Do Hyun can be Ri Jin’s half brothe angle can’t happen because its Ji Sung and Hwang Jung Eum for the love of God, MBC isn’t suicidal so they won’t do it. Also, no noble idiocy, please. I don’t care about the chaebol angle at all, Do Hyun doesn’t care about who runs that awful conglomerate and Ri Jin cares even less. So, just give it all to Ki Joon and let him ride into sunshine with Ms. Fox and give our OTP a happy ending and send all those who were silent witness to the abuse to jail. I can live with that ending.

    1. I have faith that they won’t make them half-siblings, because the clues are suggesting that they don’t share even a drop of blood. Have faith, friend!

Am I too greedy to wish that they will end this drama with Do-hyun and Ri-jin living somewhere with their little kids? :d

  10. I just felt terrible for the kids after watching this episode. And it’s extra sad for Do-hyun when he found out everything in the last 5 minutes of the episode. The horror, wow, I’m genuinely horrified by the adults’ actions in the past. Ji-sung is really killing it, snot and all. Can’t wait for next week!

  11. My fav ep so far!!! We finally know what really happened!!! The secret is out!!!
Now, next week better come fast, and RiJin better tend that wound on his head, or he’s going to die!
And the mommy better come fast and see her little boy hurt. Then see him getting treated by RiJin.
And DoHyun, you better not loose your concious, or you are really going to die. Or SeGi might come out again, Bc SeGi can take hits to the head.
    Anyways, fighting!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. aaawwww.. the confession and kisses was romantic. i’m very curious for next ep. Hope Do-Hyun can save Ri-Jin. Can’t wait for Wednesday.
Thanks for the recap, again and again.
    Fighting..!!

  13. Omg fav episode thus far. Second being the episode when Se-gi had to act as Do-hyun. Haha.

I really hope that Do-hyun won’t play the ‘noble idocy’ act and try to leave Ri-jin and all. The last scene when Do-hyun was fighting with Se-gi and eventually recovered his memory really struck me so hard. It has been so long since I got so emotionally invested in a drama. Kudos to the writer, director and the actors (special shoutout to Ji Sung) for making this drama so awesome.

    1. WORD. No noble idiocy, please! They have been apart for 21 years and they should spend the rest of their lives together!

And the last scene..I have no words to describe my emotions. There are too much of them!

  14. (I think I’ll have to go and talk to the swans again, just to organize my thoughts. Yeah, I just realized that I can talk to swans, and I am a swan whisperer.God this drama is slowly turning me into an unstable, impatient, bipolar, insomniac messy girl)……LOL!! after the painful and packed action recap on the last part, these lines makes lightened my mood..that awkward moment when i feel like im tickled while reading those lines..hahahahaha

  15. Thank you for the recap 🙂 This episode left me numb that I can’t think properly…It was an episode full of sweet moments but in one second everything changed and we’re left speechless with heavy hearts. I don’t know what truths are still hidden but I know that nothing can make me understand or make a reason behind this family’s actions other than they are pure monsters and I’m waiting for their karma impatiently. I really loved the scene where Cha Do Hyeon maintained his consciousness and didn’t lose to SSG and I believe that Shin Se Gi wanted Cha Do Hyeon to regain his lost memories for him to be able to know why and who he needs to fights and protect Oh Ri Jin. And I hope that he won’t pull himself away from Oh Ri Jin out of guilt because of his family inhuman actions but instead stand by each other holding their hands to fight together and overcome these painful memories.

    1. I hope Se-gi won’t disappear just like that 😦 He needs to come out and see it for himself that Ri-jin remembers him, and to leave her in Do-hyun’s care. Dang, I get all teary from imagining the scene alone!

Yup, Do-hyun needs to stay beside Ri-jin since they can heal each other’s wounds with love and care, just like how Oh Family helped Ri-jin to grow up into a beautiful and kind lady she is right now 🙂

  16. Talking about the child moment, it’s funny that Ri On taunted Ri Jin to become a worthy sister for him and yet he looked regret that in flashback of their school days episode 8 when he said he trained her too hard as sister 😀
The young actress that play Ri Jin is so sweet and her expression when Ri On taunted her to be strong is the same one that i always saw on adult Ri Jin. When i saw the BTS photo, both of them look so cute her name is also unique, Kim Amy. Speaking of the name, I’m surprised that the one that play young Do Hyun also named Lee Do Hyun. Quite coincidence isn’t it…

When Se Gi offered to take over Do Hyun, I was scared that this time he will be stronger because the tattoo design looks complicated not simple like the last time. And I don’t know whether to feel relieved Se Gi failed to take over because after that Do Hyun get another shock from the memory. This man really couldn’t get a break in his life…

I didn’t post the next comment to deflate everyone mood (the ending of this episode already did that), but simply to share my worry about the next phase the drama will take.

My expectation for this drama is like double edged sword, it could bring so much enjoyment on my experience OR it could disappoint me. I was rather cautious with writernim during this second phase of the story, the last time (in Moon Sun) the second phase felt so flat for me. In Moon Sun the meeting between OTP after they know and remember each other was dragged out so long. And the aftermath story became too slow and uneventful like I hope. But I also didn’t want the story to running around in the circle just for the sake to keeping the plot alive. ottoke 😦

So i come to the conclusion to continue watch this as my pleasure just like the first time i did it, rather than try to figure it out what kind twist or conclusion that will be given to us 🙂

    1. Ooohhh Sorry, where’s my manner??? You have been through so much, your soul left your body just like empty vessel of Ri On. Thank You for the recap!!!

    2. Actually, I was also reminded of MoonSun after episode 14 ended, because Yeon-woo also regained her memory around episodes 14-15 in MoonSun, and it was kind of a letdown when she did nothing to make up for her suffering. I hope Do-hyun will be given the chance to be different and not as flat as Yeon-woo. Thank you for being here! I thought I was the only one feeling like that..cautious about the drama’s journey towards the end..but you know that feeling too! /hugs/ ❤ Let’s hang in there until the end!

Yeah, maybe I should tone down all the urge to guess the twist. Hehehehe

  17. “(God this drama is slowly turning me into an unstable, impatient, bipolar, insomniac messy girl)”

I luv your phrases above.. because I’m in the same state as you now. With that kind of ending and no preview..I’ll be a crazy girl to wait for the next ep.

  18. How is Ri Jin related to the Seung Jin’s group family? Why is she locked up in the family basement? Is she CDH’s father’s daughter with his other wife / mistress? Then in that case, CDH & Ri Jin are half siblings & can’t be in a man-woman love relationship. Urghhh… I’m so curious, can’t wait for the next episodes!!

    1. Ri-jin is the daughter of Min Seo-yeon, who was also Do-hyun’s legal (or adopted) mom, but they are most probably not related by blood, because if Ri-jin was, then there’s no reason for Do-hyun’s father to resent the little girl. Min Seo-yeon was married to Do-hyun’s father, while Do-hyun’s birth mother Madam Shin) was the mistress.

Rant Out, Souls!
