Fasten your seat belts and bring out all the popcorn in the house, drama folks, because March will be showering us with not one or two, but THIRTEEN new dramas throughout the month! I already get dizzy imagining all the new dramas coming my way one by one, and it will be one crazy month playing catch up, picking and dropping shows left and right. I can’t promise that I will watch all of them, but it is worth giving them a try to see the dramas which are worth the hours we are going to spend for them ^^

I’m not sure what their target group is, but MBC is making a drama about raising babies that is to be aired on Saturday midnight. My Little Baby stars Oh Ji-ho as a Violent Crimes detective who is suddenly entrusted with a baby he has to take care of. Thus, begins his days full of midnight stay-ups and poopy accidents…I assume? The 16-episode series also stars Lee Soo-kyung (of Let’s Eat fame), Kim Min-jae, and Nam Ji-hyun (of 4Minute). Catch the premiere of this childcare diary drama on 5 March and see it for yourself!

This weekend will have another two weekenders joining the new batch of family dramas: Marriage Contract takes over the slot previously occupied by ratings leader My Daughter, Geum Sa-wol, but unlike the conventional MBC weekenders, it is slated only for 16 episodes. The title says it all; it follows the story of a single mother who finds out that she has limited time to live and a man who only sees the value of life in money, and the two of them enters a marriage of convenience. The pairing of Lee Seo-jin and UEE got me curious at first, but the teasers and posters prove that they suit each other on the screen. But the angst..oh, the angst! Prepare your heart for the hearty trip starting this 5 March.

Another weekend drama premiering this Saturday is Mrs Cop 2, which is made up of mainly new leads except Kim Min-jong, and scores different time slot compared its sister drama Mrs Cop. The promo materials look slick and awesome so far, and the cast is just as tempting. Kim Sung-ryung takes the lead as the titular working mom who is also a cop, supported by Im Seulong, Kim Min-jong, and Son Dambi. Although it was a late addition, Kim Bum’s casting surely will attract more attention towards the series, and the showdown between Kim Sung-ryung and Kim Bum shouldn’t be anything but perfection.

The writer-director duo of Liar Game is back, but not with Liar Game Season 2; Pied Piper will be a crime negotiation drama that follows a team of police negotiators. Shin Ha-kyun is playing the titular negotiator whose past job was (you guess it) a business negotiator. That explains the spiffy look he is sporting in some of the stills..and he looks so fine in black shirt. Yoon Joon-sang portrays a reporter covering the cases handled by the team, while Jo Yoon-hee becomes a member of the negotiation team. The drama replaces Cheese in the Trap on tvn’s Mon-Tue slot starting 7 March.

Instead of starting the ratings race ahead of its competitors, KBS decides to wait and air Babysitter first instead of Neighbourhood Lawyer on its Mon-Tue slot. The synopsis is as mysterious as the plot: a mysterious thriller drama about an incident happening to a family of five. Since we have babysitter as the title, it has to be related to the family’s babysitter..right? The drama will be a debut work of the writer, but in the hands of producer Kim Yong-soo (who has a lot of dramas in his resume, including White Christmas and Hometown Legends), the drama is shaping up to be a nice blend of dark and mysterious on the directing front. The drama will air after Moorim School wraps up, with a total of four episodes. Jo Yeo-jung, Kim Min-joon, Lee Seung-joon, and Shin Yoon-ju are starring, and this will be Shin’s first drama and second project after the movie Dongju.

There’s a whole drama behind the drama Goodbye Mr. Black, and it is almost like a miracle that it manages to avoid being scraped down entirely before securing the Wed-Thu time slot on MBC, taking over the predecessor One More Happy Ending on 16 March. Based on a manhwa of the same title, the story is loosely adapted from the novel The Count of Monte Cristo, and it is billed as a melodrama about a revenge-driven man. We shall see how much melo it will be, but the scriptwriter also wrote I Miss You, so…it is possible that it will go all the way into the melodramatic territory. Lee Jin-wook, Moon Chae-won, Kim Kang-woo, Song Jae-rim, and Yoo In-young are leading.

Well…if you want to watch a proper tearjerker, then Memory might be tailored just for you. Coming from the team behind the revenge trifecta Resurrection, Devil, and Shark, the drama will be focusing on a person’s quest for happiness instead of their favourite subject that is revenge. Lee Sung-min plays the titular lawyer of a law firm who finds himself diagnosed with Alzheimer, thus begins the journey of self discovery and preserving happiness in life, including family love. Don’t say I didn’t warn you beforehand, because there are lots of tears involved in the teaser alone. Kim Ji-soo, Park Jin-hee, Kim Junho, and Yoon So-hee are also starring in the Fri-Sat drama, set to premiere on 18 March on tvn.

Miss Temper and Nam Jung-gi is bringing back the alpha female and beta male theme to dramaland, and both leads look convincing in their roles. Lee Yo-won makes her cable debut in this jtbc drama as Ok Da-jung, a marketing director with track records both in her career and personal lives. Her nickname is ‘Temper’ Da-jung (a play on her family name’s character) because she doesn’t know the phrase ‘holding back. As for Yoon Sang-hyun, his Nam Jung-gi is the exact opposite of Miss Temper, who is also his direct superior at the cosmetics company: he cannot say ‘No’ to anyone, and he’s called Father Theresa. The drama aims to portray a drama close to reality of the working people, so it is worth checking out to see how they will do so. The drama will go head-to-head with Memory on the Fri-Sat slot beginning 18 March.

We can’t get Vampire Prosecutor Season 3 this year, but Vampire Detective is here (at last!) to satiate our hunger for vampires and blood. Yeah! A vampire who graduated from the police academy, a veteran detective, and a hacker lady work together to form an investigation agency, dealing with cases and police while the past catches up with them. Vampire Lee Joon looks spiffy, but Oh Jung-se’s character sounds so endearing from the description, and Lee Se-young’s hair is god’s gift. Lee Chung-ah is also a part of the cast as the mysterious woman..and I hope that she is also a vampire. The Sunday OCN drama premieres 27 March.

Youth drama Page Turner is promoted as a three-part Drama Special on KBS2, and the drama is another anticipated piece because of the writer; Park Hye-run also penned Pinocchio, I Hear Your Voice, and Dream High, so the news of her working on a short drama is intriguing to begin with. The story of rivalry and challenges of today’s youth stars Kim So-hyun, Ji Soo, and Shin Jae-ha, and the teaser gives us a taste of the drama’s energy.  The drama was initially planned for February broadcast but it was pushed to March, with 26 March as the premiere date. The 3-episode drama will be airing every Saturday night on KBS2.

28 March will be the start of another ratings war on the Mon-Tue slot since the Big Three will be up against one another, this time on a clean and fair slate: KBS2 will have the webtoon adaptation Neighbourhood Lawyer Jo Deul-ho starring Park Shin-yang and Kang So-ra; SBS continues its sageuk streak on the slot through Jackpot with Jang Geun-suk and Yeo Jin-gu; and MBC is putting another 50-episode drama on the time slot with Monster, starring Kang Ji-hwan and Sung Yu-ri. We only have got one teaser from Neighbourhood Lawyer and Jackpot, while the short teasers from Monster (whose changed title is still making me weep – Tyrant was so much better ㅠㅠ) are nowhere to be found online, so I will be updating the post as we get more goodies from these rivaling dramas.
