Rulers of the Joseon Dynasty and KDrama Interpretations

Another reason to blame Jang Ok Jung, Live in Love is that it makes me study South Korea’s history, particularly Joseon Dynasty. Since I am currently enjoying my holiday, it can be said that I read about the Joseon kings almost all the time when I’m not watching dramas. It has now gotten to the point of jotting down the names and tracing their family lineage, especially the relationships they had with each other, aside the usual father and son relationship. I was planning to post this later but I know I have to write it all before I forgot all the things I read. I also want to thank Msbtrixie for giving the suggestion that prompted me to do this. It doesn’t hurt to learn something while watching our dramas, right?

A Guide to Joseon Hairstyles and Headgears

I think it’s about time to edit this post to add several types of other hairstyles and headgears. The hairstyles and headgears used during Joseon Dynasty were from the dynasties preceding it  such as Three Kingdoms Period and Goryeo Dynasty and also with influence from China’s dynasties. Here’s a post to list down mostly, if not all, the hats, headgears, and ornaments worn by the Joseon people. With reference to the dramas, I think it will be easier for us to see how the headgears and hairstyles look like.

2012 Appreciation Post

[I don’t know why some of the content disappeared before :\ Here’s the edited version.]

For various reasons, this year’s appreciation post is going to be longer compared to last year, simply because I watched quite a handful of dramas and I have a lot of things to be thankful for. I have to admit that 2012 isn’t the best year in my life as a student, but I’m grateful that I something that I can hold on to, just to escape the reality at times. Now that seems a little depressing O.O but student’s life is not normal without any sign of stress, right? Back to the dramas, I think I’ve watched more dramas this year and at one point, I even juggled eight currently airing dramas at that time. Crazy, but I managed to finish most of them.

2012

Beware that this is probably going to take forever…

Hanbok for Men: Kim Boong-Do’s Style

It always takes forever when I decide to write something about hanbok. This time because it’s been a while since I last wrote about this topic. I decide to do another short post, centered about the clothing for the men during Joseon Dynasty. Although the men of Joseon Dynasty wore more subdued colors than the women, they also had an array of clothes and actually, they had more styles than the women’s hanbok. It depended on the occasion and the place they’re going to for the choice of clothes. I pick up the most suitable model for this post because he has the opportunity to wear every type of clothes available for the men, and he’s Kim Boong-Do, our Joseon Scholar.

Goodbye Dear Queen

Several hours have passed but still, I can’t seem to believe that Queen Inhyun’s Man has came to an end. All the tears, the angst, the agony of waiting, the smile, and the laugh, everything…seems to be surreal. The 16 hours of the drama total course suddenly feels so short. And suddenly, I feel empty: no more smarty pants Boong-Do, no more cheeky Hee-Jin, no story about their world anymore…

Am I being too sentimental over here? Screw all the feelings; I really want to pour my heart out this time.

Bye May, Hello June

If I were to define productivity..Hmm..let’s just say that May wasn’t a great month for me. Hence I am glad to bid goodbye to the month and welcome the good June into my life. Plus, my birthday is coming up! Yeay! The post-stress after the examination might be the reason why I didn’t have that much drive to update this blog or watch too many dramas at one time, hence the lack of posts and recaps. I stopped watching Rooftop Prince and The Equator Man, and just focused on Queen Inhyun’s Man. I’m not in the place to say that the dramas suck or anything, but it’s just because I need some break from drama watching activity.

Now THIS is an Addiction!

Really, I don’t know how to describe the exact feelings when it comes to my drama addiction. I thought I’ve experienced enough after years of watching dramas, but this time, it’s totally a new, higher level (or degree?) of addiction. sigh I think I really have to apologize for the lack of update and recaps here. I want to update, really, I want to write thousands of words to rant about dramas and do the recaps, but every time I sit and start to write, the words would just disappear, along with the motivation. They’re like…evaporating into the thin air.

All of this thanks to Queen Inhyun’s Man.

Queen and I

..that’s the English title of Queen Inhyun’s Man, the latest talk in the town of kdrama land. Believe it or not, I never thought that I would be sucked into watching the drama before, but the teasers managed to make me check the first episode out. The rest is history, as I kept watching and watching until the latest episodes. If people ask what’s the reason for this drama to be so enjoyable for me and the rest of kdrama viewers, I don’t really have the answer. For me, it’s just because Queen Inhyun’s Man gives me the joy I used to have when I watched dramas few years back.
