2013 Appreciation Post

Last minute work is my forte, so I decided to make the last day of 2013 as my appreciation day…but so many things happened that the post was left unattended..until today. 2013 passed by in a blink of an eye, and there are so many things to be appreciated as well some that make me want to complain all day long. Life’s not adventurous without both delightful and not-so-fun things, right? Just like the drama offerings last year, there are some that worth mentioning and they will be in my mind for quite sometime, while others might probably lost themselves in my fading memory.

Jang Ok Jung: Live (and Die) in Love

It’s hard to believe that Jang Ok Jung, Live in Love has ended. To be honest, I was contemplating on whether to continue the journey with the conflicts that started to rear their ugly heads when Ok-jung decided to pursue her love, but I hesitated. I loved the first 9 episodes too much to let it go just like that and I decided to follow the drama as an outsider. I read the recaps and the forums, witnessing how people were reacting to the episodes with each week passed by in the blink of an eye and getting the gist of the story from my friend, who is also a loyal fan of the drama. I thought I would be able to bid goodbye to the drama coolly, but I found myself sobbing like a baby after I finished watching the last episode live. I think Jang Ok Jung, Live in Love is like an unrequited first love to me: you thought you can forget it, but there’s a part of you that will be attached to it.

Joseon’s Court Attire: Kdrama Style (Part 2)

I can’t resist myself from writing another post about the hanbok worn inside the court during Joseon Dynasty, simply because of the awesome hanbok galore in Jang Ok Jung: Live in Love and Cruel Palace: War of the Flowers. Both sageuk portray the ladies as the main focus of their plots and just like the women nowadays, the female characters cannot live without the beautiful clothes and accessories. But it doesn’t mean that the male characters are left behind; they also have their own share of gorgeous hanbok shown in the dramas.

Rulers of the Joseon Dynasty and KDrama Interpretations

Another reason to blame Jang Ok Jung, Live in Love is that it makes me study South Korea’s history, particularly Joseon Dynasty. Since I am currently enjoying my holiday, it can be said that I read about the Joseon kings almost all the time when I’m not watching dramas. It has now gotten to the point of jotting down the names and tracing their family lineage, especially the relationships they had with each other, aside the usual father and son relationship. I was planning to post this later but I know I have to write it all before I forgot all the things I read. I also want to thank Msbtrixie for giving the suggestion that prompted me to do this. It doesn’t hurt to learn something while watching our dramas, right?

Drama Rants

This was supposed to be a first impression of a certain drama but I soon realized that I could only ramble about the drama instead of giving a proper first impression of it. So it turns into a post consisting of purely rants about me and the dramas I’m watching right now, which aren’t that many. My watching habit has changed. I can feel it! Have I changed? I think so.

A Guide to Joseon Hairstyles and Headgears

I think it’s about time to edit this post to add several types of other hairstyles and headgears. The hairstyles and headgears used during Joseon Dynasty were from the dynasties preceding it  such as Three Kingdoms Period and Goryeo Dynasty and also with influence from China’s dynasties. Here’s a post to list down mostly, if not all, the hats, headgears, and ornaments worn by the Joseon people. With reference to the dramas, I think it will be easier for us to see how the headgears and hairstyles look like.

Jang Ok Jung’s Gentlemen and Scheming Ladies

joj_p

I’ve been trying to find a good title that can be at the same level as Queen Inhyun’s Man, but this is the best I can come up with. I suddenly became interested in Jang Ok-jung: Live in Love after Hong Soo-hyun joined the cast. I was keeping my excitement low for the time being, but the press conference yesterday did it all for me, leaving me craving and waiting like crazy for next Monday. All I can do right now is praying for the drama to turn out really, really good and become my first sageuk fix of the year.
