About

Welcome to the talking cupboard! This blog was founded on March 16, 2011 with the name one talking cupboard. The name was changed afterwards to make it simple, since the URL was thetalkingcupboard from the get go. The blog was created thanks to the viral 30-Day KDrama Challenge back then on tumblr, which inspired me to create a proper blog focusing on my dramas. So far, the blog focuses mainly on Korean entertainment, including kdramas, kmovies, and sometimes kvariety. The blog consists mainly of random thoughts about dramas the I am watching or finished watching, recaps, swoon-worthy and drool-worthy pictures of actors and actresses, magazine spreads, and purely random ramblings. I am deeply interested in the history and culture of South Korea, hence I also made a few posts focused on traditional Korean clothing called hanbok and other things related to Korean culture and history.

The talking cupboard is currently maintained by the creator, Mimi aka muchadoboutlove and Jasmine aka dramaladloverj; Mary aka kichul1106 previously contributed to the blog as well 🙂

  3. This is really a great blog ! I am one of the few male in KDrama-land, and probably one of the oldest too. From Holland, Europe. I am member of a Canadian forum dedicated to old Canadian and Celtic stories for 11 years now, with members from all over the world. It was a Chinese/Canadian forumbuddy who lived in Korea in 2009, who put me on the Korea-track. I was getting tired of the regular Hollywood-things, and tried a Korean movie, just for fun, expecting nothing. Bingo ! Now, almost 4 years later, I have seen a fair share of KDrama and movies, and learned a lot about this interesting country. I am not for the “too sweet romances”, neither for only violence. Middle of the road. But Painter of The Wind, Arang and The Magistrate, Secret Garden, Coffee Prince and many more I will always re watch again at a certain moment.
Moon Geun Young is a cute good looking actress, like so many other actresses in any country, even in Holland. Comes with the job. But few can really act.
After Painter of the Wind, ( 3x), and Cinderella’s Sister ( 4x), and ongoing Goddess of Fire, Yung Yi, I am convinced “MGY”is one of the best actresses in the world at the moment. But so many other Korean actresses and actors are top. ( Also the old ones that play the mean CEO’s and the Grandma’s )
Your site gives a lot of information that is very hard to find in a single place otherwise. Thanks for that !

    1. Hello! Glad to have another male fan in the kdrama circle. People would think that Kdrama is just full of romance and refuse to give it a try but it’s not! I’m happy that more are appreciating the dramas and while not all of them are excellent, there are gems that worth the time spent for watching. Looks like we’re into the same genre: not too sweet, not too violent. Being a MGY fan, you must have liked sageuk or the period Kdrama, right? I think MGY shines when she’s in sageuk 😀

      Thanks for dropping by! 😉

  4. your site is awesome! 😀 thank you so much that you offer so many information about Korea culture. it helps me a lot to write a book. annyeong!

  5. Appeal for funds from Webfoot
    Blog: http://mywebfoot.tumblr.com/tfg

I am a writer who wants to become an author.

In September, I started writing a fanfic called That Far Gone (TFG), based on the leads of the kdrama called The Master’s Sun (So Ji Sub and Gong Hyo Jin). People who read the fanfic tell me the story is different from the usual fanfic material. Readers’ comment that the fanfic is “a masterpiece that brought us laughter, passion, grief, healing and hope “, “endearingly beautiful”, or “blurring the lines between reality and fiction”, and my favourite comment – “good grammar”. You can view more comments and the whole fanfic here at http://mywebfoot.tumblr.com/tfg

At the urging of those who have read TFG, I am turning this into a full-fledged e-book. The added length will permit me to develop the secondary characters more fully and to give the main couple more scenes to explore the growing relationship, making it an enduring tribute to the chemistry of this couple.

To do this, I need the help of a good editor who can help to bring out the best of the story immediately and powerfully. I need a fair amount of money to pay for this skill. That’s why I have decided to turn to crowd-sourcing for the funds. Help me to write a fun, sexy, touching and maybe even inspiring love story by contributing to the cause here http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/make-that-far-gone-real

    Thank you for your support.

  8. Hi May!!! Happy new year!!! I’m Mia from the Philippines. I’m really thankful and I do appreciate your effort in writing the recap. Wow it is awesome! I’m able to read the gist before watching the episodes on line with english sub (coz i can’t patiently wait that long hehehe)…empress ki is really a very good kdrama so far, from story line, production, for the portrayal of all the actors and actresses…it’s really impressive!!! Study well!!! Btw, been to Malaysia a couple of times in KL to be particular… 🙂

  9. Woah! Nice to know abt you. Definitely appreciate this blog, you’ve got at least my all-time favorites Goong (YoonEunHye) & ISWAK (JoeCheng). Hope you also like HanaYori Dango over BoF but oh well, it launched LMH into stardom. And now, so far you’ve got the best recap for Empress Ki, oh why we’re all smitten of course by the baby Emperor (JiChangWook). Haha! Good luck, keep up this very interesting diversion. Good job!

  10. So your name is MiMi. I am American and really did not know much about K dramas. My love for K dramas started almost a year ago when I was bored and looking for something to watch on Netflix. I came across Queen Seon Deok. So I decided to watch it and it was great. Ever since then I have added K dramas to the list of things I watch.
I agree with what you said about shipping couples but right now my shipping heart is going through a lot.
Right Now I am also watching Beauties of the Emperor, a Chinese Drama.
I am glad I found a place were I can talk about K Dramas because I don’t know anybody who watching them.

Rant Out, Souls!
