Another reason to blame Jang Ok Jung, Live in Love is that it makes me study South Korea’s history, particularly Joseon Dynasty. Since I am currently enjoying my holiday, it can be said that I read about the Joseon kings almost all the time when I’m not watching dramas. It has now gotten to the point of jotting down the names and tracing their family lineage, especially the relationships they had with each other, aside the usual father and son relationship. I was planning to post this later but I know I have to write it all before I forgot all the things I read. I also want to thank Msbtrixie for giving the suggestion that prompted me to do this. It doesn’t hurt to learn something while watching our dramas, right?
I think it’s about time to edit this post to add several types of other hairstyles and headgears. The hairstyles and headgears used during Joseon Dynasty were from the dynasties preceding it such as Three Kingdoms Period and Goryeo Dynasty and also with influence from China’s dynasties. Here’s a post to list down mostly, if not all, the hats, headgears, and ornaments worn by the Joseon people. With reference to the dramas, I think it will be easier for us to see how the headgears and hairstyles look like.
Well..I’ve been indulging myself into watching dramas and as always, sageuk has their own charms on me. I don’t know why, but watching them always poke my curiosity button, sending me into endless nights of reading and understanding the history of Korea. It’s not too much to say that I might know Korea’s history a little bit more than my own country’s history. Am I a bad citizen? Hehe. Hopefully not. After watching Tree with Deep Roots last year, the thing that kept lingering in my mind was about the social system of Joseon Dynasty (since the countable sageuk I’ve watched are set during that time). My curiosity heightened when I saw a post about slavery from “Noises From the Closet” and I never turned back. So..this is what I’ve found about Social Strata of Joseon Dynasty, a.k.a. the Joseon I love. hihi.
I’m not being that productive nowadays, partly because I’m only watching a drama right now and my internet connection is still merciless to give me opportunity to watch even that single drama. With that reason, I am currently watching the dramas that I’ve watched before (only bits, I skipped some parts that annoyed me). I came across some periodic or historical Kdramas, which is also known as sageuk, and I’m thinking, “How about searching for some info about the clothing?” The colorful hanboks always make the actors and actresses look better, so why not gain some knowledge about them, even only by knowing their names? It doesn’t hurt anybody, I think. And another reason : because I miss the actors and actresses in hanboks.
