We’re counting down to the last few days of 2016, and after a year of entertainment Dramaland is ready to welcome 2017 with a new batch of upcoming dramas. The magazines are no exception as they are gradually rolling out pictorials of stars featured on their January issues. A lot of my favourites are gracing the zines’ pages, so I decided to put them together in this special. Since it is Christmas month, there will be 12 sets of pictures which would be a mix of December ’16 and January ’17 released pictorials. Are you ready to welcome the new year?
Kim Ah-joong is featured on InStyle’s December issue after starring in crime thriller Wanted which aired in the middle of this year. She is also in upcoming blockbuster film The King – it tells the story of an ambitious prosecutor who uses his colleagues and friends to get ahead. The actress will play the wife of Jo In-sung’s character Park Tae-soo and Jung Woo-sung, Bae Sung-woo as well as Ryu Jun-yeol round up the main cast. The movie is set to hit Korean theatres in January.
New actress Kim Tae-ri has had a breakout year after starring in The Handmaiden directed by acclaimed filmmaker Park Chan-wook. She was chosen among 1500 applicants in an audition for the role and has since gotten 5 nods from different film awards. She has also gotten her first lead role in upcoming film Little Forest, which is a Korean adaptation of the popular Japanese manga series. Filming will kick off next month, and in the meantime she is seen on ELLE’s January pages. (I hope they will release more pics!)
Shin Se-kyung was last seen in the epic 50-episode sageuk Six Flying Dragons which ended this March. As we await her next project, you can see her featured on marie claire’s January issue.
After Ex-Girlfriend Club last year, Song Ji-hyo came back with jtbc drama My Wife Is Having An Affair This Week starring alongside Lee Sun-kyun. It is a remake of the Japanese drama bearing the same title. The model-turned-actress is featured on Singles next month.
InStyle has featured Choi Ji-woo for their January issue, who wrapped up legal drama Woman With A Suitcase back in November. She also stars in web drama Seven First Kisses which airs every Monday and Thursday on Naver TV cast.
Kim Ha-neul made her dramaland comeback four years after A Gentleman’s Dignity with romantic melodrama On The Way to the Airport alongside Lee Sang-yoon – I enjoyed it despite the slow pace. It touches on the topic of affairs but the show was more about the emotions involved and the growth of characters. I plan to do a review of this so do stay tuned 😉 Meanwhile, check out the actress’ marie claire pictorial for January.
Fusion sageuk Hwarang premiered last Monday with High Cut rounding up its male cast Park Seo-joon, Park Hyung-sik, SHINee’s Minho, Kim Tae-hyung (BTS’s V), Jo Yoon-woo and Do Ji-han for a cover photoshoot featured on Volume 188. Set in Silla, it is a story about friendships and love between a group of young people. The drama is pre-produced and set for twenty episodes.
Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo was full of inconsistencies while airing and the writing was weak overall but Lee Jun-ki made a great performance as Wang Yo. He is featured on ELLE’s January pages but there are only two pictures currently, I hope we get more next month 😛
Jun-ki’s co-star Kang Ha-neul in Moon Lovers has also been featured on Singles January. His movie Dongju: The Portrait of a Poet was also released this February and more recently, he made a brief cameo appearance in Entourage which stars his Dongju co-star Park Jung-min.
Veteran actor Jung Jin-young is featured on Esquire’s December issue. I remember liking his role in Dong Yi a lot, and I hope we get to see him more in dramas next year 🙂
Jo Jung-suk who started out as a musical actor has become popular among more international fans in recent years – after doing Oh My Ghost with Park Bo-young previously, he starred in Jealousy Incarnate alongside Gong Hyo-jin this year which has earned him a Daesang nomination at the upcoming SBS Drama Awards which will be held on December 31st. He’s the cover man for Esquire Korea’s January issue and cameo-ed on Legend of the Blue Sea as a merman alongside Jeon Ji-hyun ^^
Last but not least, the final star on this special is Lee Sang-yoon who was in On The Way to the Airport as mentioned earlier and he is featured on Harper’s BAZAAR for January.
